Trolling Monomoy

Hey all,

I fish monomoy a lot but almost exclusively fly/light tackle. I have a few friends coming up this summer who love to troll for stripers. Does any one have any tips on trolling around monomoy? My plan was to troll tube and worms on wire line. I would approach the rip from up current and go down through it. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Anchor up above the rip line, leadcore squids back thru the current.

Good luck trying to anchor up out there during the summer. There are usually too many boats around to anchor up safely. If you plan on going during the week, it may be possible if it's not on a commercial day. If you go on a weekend, there's little chance of being able to anchor near Monomoy. It's usually cowded with a bunch of boats, half of which are piloted by guys who have no clue how to work a rip. And the guys who know what they're doing won't be too happy with someone dropping anchor above the rip line.

Wire line to floro to jigs with pork rind keep the jigs in the rip.

Though you will do 10 times better with fresh bait and light tackle drifting the rip.

Drifting fresh sand eels

One could suggest if you want to "troll" start on the outside from high bank a half mile from the beach with umbrella rigs zig zaging out to 3 miles then back again towards the beach all the while heading north to the old bar and as far as the chatham light, but only on an out going tide...all white or red/white tubes.

thanks everybody, drifting sand eels and using the fly rod is typically how I fish the rips. A friend of mine sold his boat and wants to give me two of his wire line rods as long as I take him out to troll or wire line jig. Maybe I'll get him to see the light and fish light tackle with me though!
