First report on Cuttyhunk Trip

Hey everyone,

Yes, we’re back from Cuttyhunk.

No, we didn’t rack up a mess of cows.

Yes, we had so much fun my sides still hurt from laughing.

I’ll post details from the trip when I get a chance; right now I have a deadline on a certain video jacket design that has to go out.

Here are a few pictures that show what it was like on Friday. Conditions were much too nice for productive bass fishing…be careful of what you wish for…Saturday was another story…much to rough to even fish.

The sunset shots we’re taken just before I jumped in the water to film the area at night. It was crystal clear water that was almost barren – NO FISH! Not a good omen. Hope springs eternal and tomorrows storm would certainly drive fish into the beach…how windy could it get anyway? That’s another story, with another batch of pictures…some awesome video trying to fish in 60 mph winds.

Mike nailed this nice bass within 30 minutes of fishing late Friday morning.

We had no shortage of plugs thanks to the King…note the infamous Deer Strokenoff hat.

The clouds marched in as an ominous warning of what was to follow in just 5 hours.

Martha’s Vineyard and the Aquinnah Light (the light formerly known as Gay Head) made a beautiful backdrop for surfcasting at sunset.

It would be a cold night in Cuttyhunk. I dove this stretch of water and found very few fish present…they must have gone to Rhode Island

Cuttyhunk

It looks like you guys fished the east side of the island. On Columbus day weekend I fished the outlet of the salt pond down the south end with my son and we could ahardly lift our arms the next day. All on topwater swimmers same yellow and red combo as well as white polaris poppers . Most of the fish where 28-35". We walked the west side back to the dock and took fish all along the west side (nice boulder fields ) How far south did you go? We found most of the east side posted coming from inland ( the path from the observation platform) but we were happy with what we found. We're hoping for one more trip out there this year but it's getting late.

GBOUTDOORS 10-29-2002 07:20 PM

Theres no fish out at that island just stay home you will do better!!!

Fish_Eye 10-30-2002 05:38 AM

The larger fish seem to be on the south side of the island in the boulder fields. I know the water off the pond is great for lots of fish and some nice size ones too, but not last weekend. Ron fished that area hard, but so did a herd of large gray seals :( .

I hope I can make one more trip out there in November...it wasn't cold enough for me on the last visit

Hey GB :kewl:

Anyone think when Cuttyhunk reaches a point when the daytime fishing is most often better than the night fishing? Not for the angler's comfort but for catching fish
