Congrats to Matt Perry, member of the Tattoo's Tackle Pro Team on his impressive catch, 165lb Bluefin Tuna. What an impressive catch on spinning gear!

Matt earned this one after 7 hooks ups last year and none landed. This was his first bluefin and I'm glad I was onboard to be a part of the moment. The Sea Pup scores again!

Congrats to the angler and the lurebuilder.:kewl::kewl:

I think Tattoo's gotta give himself a little more credit -- that fish was part of a triple-hook-up and an overall kick@ss day. We saw that fish blow-up from 1/2 mile away.
Biggest fish on spin gear I've seen.

Definitely a nice tuna landed very quickly on spin tackle.

Mother Nature was at her best, thats for sure. Time goes by at a very rapid pace when you pull up to a school and launch your offering into the wheelhouse, especially when three guys all do it at the same time.

Capt. Corey http://www.plugnplaycharters.com, Matt ( SWE Staff ) and myself all launched sea pups into the frenzy at just about the same time and they were eaten just about instantly. The image of seeing Matts fish jump out of the water, pectoral fins flared out, mouth wide open, and all lit up like a chritmas tree, come crashing down to bring the pain to the sea pup 30 feet from the boat is something I'll remember for a long, long time. Simpley awesome!

Corey broke off to help us fight our fish. I ended up wrapped aroung the motor for a few seconds and then breaking off and almost knocking myself out when the rod came back and slammed me square in he skull. I was dazed and stumbled for a few minutes as Matt and Corey tried to figure out what that loud crack was ( rod hitting me in the head ) and why I was stumbling around. The focus was then on Matt and his new best friend Charile.

:claps::claps: . .. . . ..

Question: How do you keep a fish of that size QUIET once you get him to the boat? Bullet in the head, or is he so fatigued that death comes instantly ?
A fish that pax that much muscle, can definately do some damage to the boat -

Good Job Guys!!

HESH2 06-18-2008 06:34 AM

Great pics can't even think about getting a tuna like that on the spin.

wow, how the heck do you go back to "normal" fishing after that?

great stuff! I'd love to get one this year if they come in close to RI. I'd settle for 1/4 that size.

Slipknot 06-18-2008 09:55 AM

That is awesome Mike, you guys looked as psyched as the Celtics were last night :D

"how the heck do you go back to "normal" fishing after that?"

It's easy, you don't. Staying focused on anything is damn near impossible for a few days after events like this.

I throw everything from a 3wt in the Saco for itty bitty bows to going offshore dragging bars with family friends.

You appreciate when big fish happen and be thankful that you have the opportunities you do. But thats just me.

Flaptail 06-18-2008 11:04 AM

Having had the priviledge to hookup on tuna on spinning tackle several times with a popping plug I can vouch for how outstanding a catch that is. Congratulations to angler and the builder!!!!!!!!!!!!:btu:

BigFish 06-18-2008 11:12 AM

nklinesider 06-18-2008 06:33 PM

my dream fishing trip is fishing for blue fins with top water baits on spinning gear. i have never done it but someday...... seeing a big tuna blow outta the water is by far one of the most impressing sites ive ever seen, now i just have to catch one

J-golden 06-24-2008 09:08 PM

real niiiicccceeeeee

jmonte45 06-24-2008 09:43 PM

wow

that is very impressive, well done!:cheers:

Mr. Sandman 06-25-2008 06:58 AM

I agree it is hard to go back to bass fishing after an offshore day like that. The rush you get from feeling a big fish like that is just tearing line at will off the reel at a pace that you just can't believe is mindboggling...the tug of war when he parks himself at 200' and will not budge and you really are putting heat on him... You feel pumped for days. You need to go scup fishing to bring yourself back to earth.:hee:

Nice catch! I have not got one that big on spinning gear...yet.

The Iceman 6 06-25-2008 12:10 PM

GREAT story Tattoo.

Finaddict 06-25-2008 04:33 PM
