I'm pretty annoyed with the plug situation right now. I couldn't find a particular plug from certain custom manufacturers, so I had to settle for a "lesser" known manufacturer. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!! The package arrives, me opens the box, only to get spurred by a treble with only 1 protector tube on it (2 trebles 1 protector mind you). Obviously this caught my attention so I decided to closer inspect the lure. This is what I found:
1. uneven coats of paint I can faintly see wood
2. various black spots (big dust specks), smudges, between the paint and top coat.
3. the rear end of the plug was chipped, painted and top coated over.
4.partial finger print on the belly, from touching the plug before epoxy was dry.
5.belly grommet bent and improperly seated.

Now I expect a lure to get beaten up and battle scarred, but to come from the maker like that is unacceptable. I have a negative first impression of this man's product. I don't know him or know of him personally, but going by the plug I purchased, it's not good people.
Lessons Learned:
1. P*ss poor planning. Had I purchased plugs in the fall/winter instead of waiting for spring, I wouldn't have to settle for leftovers.

2. Never lower my standards and settle for less because it's available or in-stock.

More important how does it swim and does it catch?

Don't know and not interested. It could be the best swimming and catching plug ever, but the condition it was in when I received it completely turned me off of it so I put it back in the box and am waiting for a R/A number. IMO I wouldn't go to a car dealership paying for a new car and accept a car that was scratched, poorly painted and assembled, even if it gets a gazillion miles to the gallon. My thought is if quality control is crappy, more than likely r&d is just as crappy.

IMHO you should call the maker in question before making a public statement (too late)and allow them to make good on your purchase.This route causes nothing but grief on both sides of the table.Custom plugs are made by real people who back their stuff pretty good.

Chances are you will get a replacement and will end up catching you personal best on the "misfit" plug that started the controversy...

Adam_777 I agree with you to a point. If the plug had 1 defect I would and could have overlooked it, but several? No way Jose! Again I don't know the maker, and he probably is a stand-up guy, but this specific product of his does not meet my standards. I wish so bad that I could post the pics of this plug, you'd prolly understand better. Even though he's not a member of this forum (HINT, HINT) I'm not going to attack him personally, but it's fair game on his product!

Me personally, I want what I pay for the first time, I don't want to take the time to go to the post office pay to ship back to the maker, then there's the turn around time for a replacement, and if I'm lucky I'll get a sticker (If he even has stickers) and a I'm sorry? Screw that If we as consumers accept that way of doing business, then the terrorists have truly won.
The way I see it: If you're making a product (whether it's your hobby, your side business, or main source of income) you better make sure it's done right the first time, because there's too much competition, and thanks to the internet, I can trash your name, insult you and your business, threaten you, sign you up for gay porn all from the safety and privacy from my den...ROTFLMAO

yep that's usually how it goes too...just got to look at timmee's site. Bash this bash that...then they decide to take it up with whoever they bought it from. Problem with this business is that if you got a band saw and a lathe you got a plug business...damn the taxes or the insurance....it's the almighty dollar... guerrilla marketing rules...

Quality and presentation is everything...would you buy a "new" car from a dealer where the cars on the lot haven't been washed, and have various other cosmetic defects. I don't care if the car gets 45 miles to a gallon. I wouldn't buy it. When you go to a restaurant if the food you ordered doesn't look right or look like what you ordered, would you eat it?...If it isn't what I ordered not only would I send it back, I'd leave the restaurant..because if it looks like sh!t it, it usually is sh!t. To me it doesn't stand to logic that someone would take time to make sure a plug swims right, and outcatches everything else, then sh!t the bed on the assembly. There's a special place in hell for murderers and people who build crappy plugs:bl:

I understand not being happy when you spend a lot of money on plugs that don't meet your expectations.

But, I have plugs from a very reputable builder that have some blemishes that still catch great and I wouldn't trade them for anything. I wouldn't be able to sell them on ebay for the going rate of $50, but I buy em' to fish and not to re-sell. The fish don't notice the small blems on plugs if they are swimming the way they are supposed to swim.

I caught my best fish so far this year on a plug I built that had epoxy chipping off it and on an old Gibbs pencil popper that had turned from white to yellowish white over the years. I don't think the fish noticed.

I'm just a grouchy ole bastage like that. If something looks crappy I fuss , complain and reminisce about "the good ole days". Larry pass the popcorn this way :D:D
