Trolley Line fishing

Have you guys ever heard of trolley line fishing? It is when you cast out a sinker (1-3oz) with a 12 ft surfrod as far as you can. YOu put that in the rod holder then take a live bunker hook it using a conventional rod reall and put and o ring on the line of the surf caster that has a release when a big fish hits it. They use them at the end of fishing piers in NC.... then when the fish hits you bunker the oring release the surf line and you fight it on the conv....... This looked like something that a surf guy could use without getting his live bait tangled around rocks and so forth...
