Transmission Problem?

I have a '93 yamaha 85 hp outboard. Starts and runs great. Yesterday after a day on the water I have a little problem backing into the slip. Shift into reverse and it sounds a little clunky and the outboard bucks a little and kicks up slightly. Now when I'm in neutral there is a little noise like it wants to be in gear. Shifts into forward and runs like normal. Anybody have any thoughts or experience with this problem I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Sounds like a cable is binding, and not shifting properly. Undo the cable at the motor, and attempt shifting my hand to try to isolate the situation.

I agree, cable problem weather it need adjusting or replacing, you may have to screw around with the adjustment to get it just right.
