Attention all Surfcasters, Plan for your last push!!!
 

OK all!!! This is it. We are winding down to our last month or so of fishing for monster, two-handed bass (two hands 'cause thats what you need to carry them) and DO YOU HAVE A PLAN for that?? If not - then you should. JeffH, a surfcaster that works alot of territory from the Cape to CT, had a plan this past weekend that covered two states!!! After Plan A dissapointed they switched two Plan B and had one of the nights in the suds that one can only hope for. Sure, you can say that JeffH and the fellow he was fishing with, were at the right place at the right time but these guys had a plan and worked it. I fished with Jeff once about 2 or 3 years ago when he came up to fish with #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& and after seeing him fish, I know that he is a serious and SMART surfcaster.

The fish are moving and time is running short. Come up with a flexible plan. This weekend will be great with early evening to midnight tides depending where you are AND A FULL MOON to boot. Develop a plan, work on it, get out and IMPLEMENT.

We are coming into your Last, BEST Chance of the season for big fish, so getcher butts out there!!! Many people have already packed it in for the season but now is when the rumors of those 50#plus fish REALLY start to get around. I wish all of you a chance to dance with her this fall!! So get out and get Fishin'

Myself, I'm planning at least two nights of SW Rhody, Nighttime, Eel-slingin', Surfcasting fun this coming weekend. 8)

The fat lady ain't sing'in yet !! Next week should be the big week!! The new moon is here for the wekend and that should move mass amounts of bass! Could very well be the last big push.

This time of year its all about being in the right place at the right time!! Its either feast or famine.Your either going to get alot of fish or no fish.the fish are moving!! november 6th thru the 10th has always been when I get my best scores from the surf.Thats always a hot week in rhode island.This year we have the added advantage of the dark moon and a week worth of sou-west winds so far,All the perfect ingredients for success.

Remember leave the school bass alone and stick to night fishing!!!! If you want a biggie!! Work rocky shores with good moving water and hold on!! the fish are hungry and moving!!!!!

Looks like last weekend was our last canal trip and this weekend we fish RI. Going down friday night. Fish the tides , fish the wind , and fish the geography. I prefer rigged eels now but time to rig them is scarce so I may have to settle for live. There was a time when I would be snagging big menhaden and livelining them this time of year but everything is small now. So I figure 4 (maybe five) weekends left then its over for me.
I need a fifty.

Yeh, I need that 50 as well... I might have my bro-in-law from CT coming up ths weekend and I might bring him to CB (he's not the Watch Hill type)... So maybe I'll se you there Saltheart?

If I can get this new boat deal finalized and put all that behind me, I would love to hook up with one of you guys down in RI. It's just a matter of getting all this crap finished up and freeing up some time to fish. If I can free up a night I will post to see if anyones interested in a novice (been 20 years in a boat now) surfcaster tagging along.

AcKKK! I am frothing at the mouth!!!! I MUST devise a plan for a quick get away this weekend!!!! I will defy the other half and go it alone if I have too! :)

I can hear the waves calling me in my sleep, my palms or cold and sweaty.........those elusive striped demons are taking over my every thought!!!!

After reading all the comments that have been made by all of the surfcasters I have no choice but to get my first surfcasting set-up. I need help, what would you guys recommend for a decent yet cost effective set up? How long?What type of rod, reel etc.?

Just to cover the basics of surfcasting (which historically causes all kinds of cyber fights ;P );
9' Graphite Rod (reccomend custom rods as most of the shelf rods are not good surf rods)
Reel with 140+ yards of 20# test line, spinning or conventional (quality varies by price and size)
Eels :D or any kind of plugs/bait...

There also so many different variations on types of surffishing that you could go dizzy but the above is probably a common denominator of what will cover the most ground...
Then there is the money factor...

Like John said, a 9ft custom rod is about the most versatile. I would recommend a spinning rod, as conventionals get tricky when the wind kicks up. The Sabre 1088 blank by Pacific Bay is a good choice. You can have one built for about 150 bucks. (cheaper than most factory rods and built better) This is one of the best eel blanks around, but I have used mine to throw swimming plugs in a pinch and it worked fine. Try a Penn 5500 or 6500SS reel.

Sounds like I may have to give up sleep one night this weekend and try RI this weekend,maybe sunday nite.I fished the canal last night ,just a few fish caught. I'm thinking of Charlestown Breachway . Never fished it ,What is the best time to go? Outgoing?

Slipnot, The best time to fish Charlestown Breachway is on the drop which starts probably 3-4 hours after Newport High tide... You'll get nice long drifts out of the dropping current but bring your Korkers, rain gear (it can get pretty wet there) and be carefull going down to pull out fish. You go down the face of the jetty and if the surfs up, at best all you'll get is wet. At worst?? Well, if you miss Nantucket Island, the next stop on the Gulf Stream is Ireland ;P
