what sizes did john make? i know he made 1.5oz ones, but curious to know if he made anything heavier.

if so then it must be 1.5...

At least 3 sizes that I know of. I was familiar with the 2½ and a larger one (can't remember if it was 3 or 3½), then I saw a narrower one which must have been 1½.

I have all three sizes,,, They all sink,,, best used in,,, big wind and big water,,,,
My first two - both 2 1/2 oz John gave me out on Block Island I think in 2004,, One is all Chartreuse with a chartreuse bucktail dressed SS mustad. The other is Hot Pink with pink hackle.

I can't say enough about how giving BOTH Habs and Tattoo was/are when it comes to sharing and giving.

is there a way to make em float? other then pumping the rod really hard, and trying to keep it up on top by working it HARD?

They can be fished a couple ways,,, In big wind and big water as soon as they hit the water start reeling,, They will work just below the surface and sometimes on top especially in a sideways wind...,,,, no need to work them that hard,,,or reel that fast.

They can also be worked very slow almost along the bottom. The key is a pause after the cast then reeling it slow. Let the plug work for you,,,

Most of all fish them with confidence. They work.

If I was in CT I would take some pictures of all three sizes but I am stuck in Texas. But not for much longer.

ok thank you sir. and what i noticed when i was working one this weekend (like a pencil) is that it swam right below the surface. kinda cool.

nothing wrong with working it that way as well. a really good fisherman from RI makes his own stubby needles and fishes them this way. you almost snake them along....

Good in the fall at the begining of one of those line storms.

I've used the 2.5 successfully in big water and big wind, but I wouldn't use them if I could fish any other needle effectively. IMHO, these are for when it's too windy for Superstrike. . . But they definitely have their place and work when little else will.
