how do you measure a striper
..
|
measure from the bottom lip to the end of the bottom fork of the tail. make sure that the tape doesnt follow the girth of the belly so if you set the fish on top of the tape would get you the best measurment. had DEP board my boat and thats how they measured my fish... didnt know about the girth thing but the one i had was over 34" so i wasnt worried.
|
legal way...place tape flat on whatever...lay fish on tape....o on the nose...follow the tape to the very end and you CAN squezz the tail together...the longest point on tail will tell you the true "epo legal "lenght.
|
Right, lay the fish on the tape. :)

I measure them by how much work went into catching it.
|
Ok seeing that all I do is work and have only been fishing 4 times this year, Fish are safe
This is the correct way Before the moratorium it was tip of nose to fork in tail along the center of the body After the moratorium the term keeper was adopted and it is from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail squeezed together to make it longer. Always across the body of the fish. |
when you pick it up you have to grunt, thats how to measure a good fish.:wavey:
Got skiff? |
I like that Flap.
If I have to measure, back they go. I prefer to think of good fish I need to grab w/ two hands to get up onto the rocks... :D too few of those so far this year :-( |

15 gal @ $4.10 a gal. (round trip) to the beach.....$61.50
dozen eels @ $2 each.......$24.00 3 trips through the local car wash to wash the smell out of the bed of your truck cuz the cow wouldn't fit in your cooler.......PRICELESS! That's how I measure a striper.....then the darn alarm clock goes off.... |
By the increase of your heart-rate when you finally get a glimpse of her as she rolls in the wash at your feet.
