i'm new to turning and need some help to buy the average wood like ayc,basswood etc... i'm in wethersfield,connecticut. if someone around here let me know,please.:patshelmet:

You can get redwood balusters 1-1/2 square by 3 feet long at most lumberyards. You can get pine there also. start off with the cheap stuff while you are making bluefish plugs and learning how to turn.
Also keep your eyes open for any free wood, birch, maple, mahogany etc. There is more thrown in dumpsters than you would ever believe.

Did you mean Red Cedar , Or real Redwood? I haven't seen Redwood anything down here in a while.

If you can find a custom cabinet shop in your area, you can probably get a fairly decent selection of hardwood scrap for a few plugs...

Probably not. Red cedar, pine, birch seem to be pretty easy to get. Some of the other stuff is more difficult. Different places may have different wood. Might also depend on your area.
