Ugly Stick-Chapter Two!
 

So my kids friend Kevin goes to make a cast and look what happens!?!?! Guess you get what you pay for.....but it is why I bought it!

i have 10 ugly sticks , surf,and boat and have never had a problem with them and on some of them i have got some good size fish . this spring i got an 8 ' tica and have used it many times and i am going to retire it i prefer the ugly stick .opinions vary

Snapped a 5'5" Ande Saltwater Tournament graphite rod on a hook set this week....... landed the fish by hand, wrapping the braid around rocket launchers on the leaning post.

That's an Ugly Stick?? doesn't look like any I've seen before. Usually Black and I have seen them in a kind of honey color, but never in white before.

Thats stick is just ugly now- lol. Nice pencil though!

The "tiger" model (honey/red/black) is supposed to be the one you can abuse because it's got a rubber core inside the rod...I like my 7'er.

I have the black with clear tip for years and love it.

The stretched out treble with the weed on it is more indicative of someone muscling it off a rock.

No it was on the cast it just snapped....I was watching...no rocks there! The bent treble is more indicative of eight 8-10 pound blues the boy was beating up on last week!:hihi:

By the look of that popper that rod gave him a lot of fun before it snapped. I would try and return it what have you got to loose.

They WILL replace it for FREE.
You shouldn't have any issues with that.

When someone new to fishing breaks a rod, I would still put my money on the user being the problem, not the rod.

Trust me I was with this kid the entire time....he is new to this fishing and I need to be there in case he needs help as he is not experienced......the rod just plain broke. Maybe the line was wrapped around the tip on the cast....but I have done that a few hundred times and usually the line snaps and you lose the lure? No big deal...$17.86....take more in gas to go get a replacement for cryin' out loud!

i've snapped more lami surf & jetty rods (1) than ugly stiks (0) ...btw, i've also never seen a white ugly stik...

Yup! When they get all 3 barbs in the mouth they tend to bend when you put the pliers to them to get them out. :huh:

I believe that picture is a shakespeare rod who also make ugly sticks.Just a cheap rod,I have 2 of them.

So much for the "you can't kill a ugly stick" mantra. Apparently its pretty easy, even on new ones.:skulz:

I wish I could get a 10 foot Ugly stick blank for custom rod purposes. One of the best surf rods I ever used was fashioned from one of these blanks in the 1980's. They were plentiful back then , I don't know about now?

I believe you're right. I have a couple of those for loaners. My Ugly stiks are black, yellow wrap, clear tip.

That pole looks like the shakespear Alpha. i had a 10' until last year i was casting a 4ounce lure, and it snapped the same way. The ugly's are the black ones, and those are a great rod.

Larry, if that's an ugly stick return it to ugly stick and they will replace it. I had one break once fell off a hook in garage and got caught in the door while closing. I had a new 12' surf rod from them in less than 2 weeks. Must have receipt though.

Steve, look on Ebay. Buy one with guides and have a rod builder strip it and re-build it for you.

I have 3 white ugly sticks. Theyre the "striper" or "catfish" model. Theyre my backup rods and boat rods for whoever wants to use them so if they break no big deal. They may still be ugly sticks, but it does look like the alpha

Its the Alpha model.

then I went to the web site and found.........

:humpty: Thats no ugly stick,the rod in the pic is a wally world special made by shakespeare.From the looks of that hook the kid got his 18 bucks worth out of it:uhuh:I've got a few of them noodle trebles lying around my shop,once the metal is fatigued it bends pretty easily but hell it didn't break!

It a vmc hook.....bent getting it out of a blues mouth....it had all 3 barbs in the mouth......had to torque it to get it out.
