Any Clash fans?
Watched a flick on DVD last night - Joe Strummer - the Future is Unwritten
Good stuff, I wish it focused more on the music but gave a cool interpretation of his life and the forming of the Clash. Some cool footage. |
Get off the f____ing stage! I liked The Clash.
In another example of nothing being the way it appears, Strummer's working-class punk persona was a front: His father was diplomat and he had a privileged education in exclusive schools. But then, one can't convincingly spit at the crowd and sing about getting booted from the factory if one lets it be known that they were a brat of the diplomatic corps - can one? |
I loved the Clash. Wish I saw them. Closer I came was BAD in a bar in N.O. prob. mid. 80s.

Its a little more involved than that. He was bascially at boarding schools most of his life, never saw his parents, his older brother committed suicide and he dropped out of art school to roam the country as a hippie. He paid his dues and survived on his own in his adolesence. Not really the life of a provledged dipolomat.

Great band. I keep the Story of the Clash cd in my desk drawer at work. I'll have to check out that dvd. In the "Amped up" a while ago, I posted a video I found on youtube while watching a PBS Clash special during one of their pledge drives.

If you grow up in English boarding schools and your father is a diplomat - you're privileged.
Consider the work and what distinguished them from all the forgotten bands of that era: Sophisticated themes, strong writing, an independent global perspective, incorporation of vastly different musical styles - it's the art of the educated. |
The only band that matters. Love the Clash

My son did his high school senior presentation project on The Clash. (punk a$$ kid, only kidding). Two of top 10, The Clash and London Calling. I miss the punk music days, don't you? "That's Montgomery Cliff honey!"
|
My first concert was the Clash. I had fifth row seats and my ears rang for two days. I used to love to slam dance.
|
Especially considering the social strada England still maintains.

Ok - I'll watch it.
You get two points for being a Clash fan. ;) |
I saw them at the Music Hall around 1981ish...........My hearing has never been the same since. I'd rate it in the top three shows I've ever seen.
