My word giants
Not to start a war bout pros and cons of comm fishin, but i was was just down at the shop and 2 dudes from CT (why people from out of state can fish our comm season but we can't theirs still befuddles me) but any how, they had an impressive catch- 17 fish 42# avg- not one, not two, not three, but FOUR FIFTIES.... Biggest was 56 and change----I am not gonna be able to sleep tonite. Every time I blink I just see those monsters and wanna cry with envy. I need a boat.:deadhorse:
|
Damn... that's a lot of striper. I would love to see ONE fifty. Holy S$%.
|
They caught a high-liners career in one night.

Her you go Redlite ! http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listi...ker&slim=quick |
Horrible thing is that those fish might have come from Ct as well. I hat the no reciprocity in the commercial regs.

A catch like that should put an end to the Boat vs. Surf argument. That's why On theWater gives more points to a shore caught fish! Putting big bass in the boat is easier and much more consistant than the surf will ever be. By the way, this is not an isolated incident. It happens all the time. I spoke to someone the other day who had a very good day, fish to 48. That's why, If you have a good night in the surf, cherish it!

You do alright yourself from where you fish from redlite, don't be hard on yourself one bit. Boats cost money, how much more are you gonna make comm. fishing for bass from a boat? enough to pay for it? maybe, maybe not. , maybe start by doing it with a friend's boat, see if you like it. I am just being realistic. Both boat and surf are challenging, obviously boats have way more advantages though.
When you read posts like this one and I have seen it more and more since the internet, Quote:
it's no wonder they can get that many fish in one night of such large proportions. Once you find them and sit over them, just pull them in with heavy gear. Having said that, I'd be happy with just one of those 50's in my life. |
Most commercial guys are the best but a score like that is very, very rare from shore and I think any commm. guy would agree. Surf catches like that are a thing of the past.
|
By the way, I support comm bass fisherman and did alotof it myself in the 70 and 80's. Those guys know what they are doing. This thread is not about bashing boat comm bass anglers but about boat vs. surf and frustrations about the state of the bass fishery from shore. Believe it or not, we had scores from the surf like this back in the 80's on the Block. And the cape guys had these same big fish in 77 and 78. Consistent big bass fishing on the beach is just not there anymore, but in a boat, you have a much better shot at large fish. It's that simple!
|
no commerical selling of striped bass in ct,for that matter fish caught in ct can't be sold out of state.commercial fishermen in ct using gill nets for bait must throw all dead stripers back.

Although I love the surf and do well... I sure could use a nice 21ft center console.:btu::btu::btu: |
I don't think this happened in CT. . It was Massachusetts because their rod and reel started last weekend.
|
Gas prices are expensive but those 4 stroke engines are SUPER fuel efficient. While you dont get to go out 100miles with it you do get to go to most locations to bag some big bass.
It is too bad that I get sea sick on the swan boats in Boston nevermind out in the ocean :yak: |
I have never found myself wanting a boat more than this season as the surf fishing on the N. Shore has been horrible. I hear it every day from many shore guys that they are not catching large fish with any consistency if at all. Yet, just a few hundred yards offshore the mackerel are still thick up here and some bigger fish including a 54# yesterday are being pulled up. The absence of bluefish this late into the season is amazing which is why the macs are still prevelant.

Sh!t, you wanna cry, go to Noman's and watch the boats anchored up off the north shore and 4 dingbats to a boat some with two or three taped on guides on piece of sh!t rods dropping chunks in 20 feet of water and bailing on them in the commercial season. Five boats, twenty guys everyone on at the same time and all in the box.
day after day and some corkers coming to the gaff. I dunno how good they are but they ain't brain surgeons thats for sure.:spin: |
All to funny...If guys even knew a quarter off the truth as to what goes on. The initial report is only about 25% TRUE.
As far as the guys bailing em, not even close, if they were then the price would not have been $3. bucks plus a pound this week. |
Nice catch. I'll bet they weren't in CC Bay. Saw a few guys come in with 30 fish this week but nutin that large.

Atleast one place here in Mass was 4 bucks a pound what's wrong with 3 bucks a pound? 60 bucks for a 20 pounder seems pretty decent to me. I guess guys don't know what goes on because other guys don't want guys to know what goes on therefore we can just speculate how easy it is on the internet;) |

:faga: Love it. A internet classic.. |
where has the respect for this fish gone?
Glorifying dead bass seems paramount to anything else these days.. I am sure there is a story behind those fish... rememeber the guy who got popped 2 or 3 years ago hauling a truck load of bass from CT to Mass? |
IPersonally saw a pikup LOADED with coolers/bass from CT waters this morning headed for MA fish markets.... price has gotta be good.
and yeah, I called ENCON (lotta good that did- left a message, and never got a call-back) |
A lot come this way from Guilford.
Many very large fish being caught in our waters too right now. Fishing is great for the boat folks from Montauk to Mass. |
Rob got a very good one tonight.
