The Fisherman Magazine
Two great articles in this week's Fisherman. Rigging eels ,a new method by Bryan Oatley and Tim Coleman's drop-back method with bucktails. Both great ways to catch stripers, however, neither is used much anymore.

What's a drop back method with bucktails?
|
Nice read a nice article bY DZ last week..
I get the NE edition for the better articles.. |
Stevie;
check the date. I think that was a May issue? (Could be wrong :D) thanks for the complement. I know you are one of the few fishing Rigged Eels still. I just try to make it as quick and easy as possible! I like to think I'm 'old school' even though I'm still fairly young! |
Bryan, it was this weeks.
|
Oh.
My bad. I guess thats right. I had my own articles confused. Guess I'm the one having a senior moment :D See you on the rocks when this swell subsides. thanks again. |
Bryan Oakley's may have been in May, but Bryan Oatley's was this weeks.
|
Really?

Thanks for the compliment. Not crazy about how it turned out after editing by the blue pencil. If you want to read the "Un-Edited Un-Rated full of secrets version" shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll send it along. DZ |
Thanks for the heads-up, Steve!
will definitely be picking up a copy this week. caught my first striper (27") on a riggie a coupla weeks ago. first time throwing one; and i haven't been able to get out since then. that was a blast to work, used your retrieve, and i really like the versatility of the bait/lure offering. *i may start killing the live ones from the gitgo, in order to facillitate matters from my perch* :bl: :bl: :bl: |

Hey D. - don't forget to add me to the CC list as per our conversation last nite at Greek-a-palooza. After I read it I thought, geez, the poor old bugger must've slipped and hit his head on a rock. It didn't seem like your style at all and I finally figured somebody did a copy and paste editing job. Looks like I was right :hs: You know, if length was a problem they should've ran it as a 2 parter. There was a lot of valuable info in there for people. |

I hit Second Beach yesterday for a surf session (that's 44 years as of this summer) with an old buddy - sitting around in the sun we had a contest to see who had forgotten the least over the last nearly 50 years. I won, but the margin was pretty #^$%## thin :rolleyes: |

I thought it was pretty basic..Good to see U in the mag anyways..Seems that writing that basic stuff opens the pathway to getting the book thing done..Some things are better kept quite anyways.. Brian covered a few more bases with his article..There's plenty of eel tricks up the NIB sleeve..I should write a book now..Then see if I can get it published when I am too old to care..I could never let them out now..:err: |

that ->Canalman
he is one SCARY dude.... ! :grins:
he scares me more than i scare Salty bugger :uhuh: ahhh ha ha ha ha |
Saw the article and had always thought that cable ties would be the way to go as I've shied away from rigging eels. How do you attached the rear hook to the front one? Could I use the technique as I do with 2 hook sluggos when I do them "Mcenna" style?
Thanks |
yeah guys, great articles all around. I too was happy to see DZ in there and I enjoyed the article. I think DZmay have mentioned it here, but the part about the "cigar butts" was really interesting and since we don't have a huge blue population where I fish, I may find myself cutting them as you suggested!
the riggie thing was awesome too, great job RIRockhound! |

Unless it's big water, I fish single hooked, smaller 12" riggies most of the time... |
Now I gotta go out and buy the Fishernman to learn how to rig eels from Oatley.
