FISHING IN THE RAIN
If fishing when it is raining, what do you do differently than when it is not raining? this, of course, when not fishing is not an option. Thanks! going to cuttyhunk tomorow and loks like some rain will be coming dwn at some point. I don't care what the weather is doing I am fishing.
|
Only thing different is wear a hat, sometimes I don't have a hat on when fishing as long as it's not raining.
, I also am more careful on rocks. |
piss to the right <><><:wall:
|
pissing to the right........hadn't thought about that. I am sure that it is a mistake that one makes only once.........:nailem:
|
It's always wet where the fish live, the could give a rat's ass if it's raining. Do what you would normally do and yes, piss to the right.
|
i make sure i have adequate hot coffee
in a thermos just in case i get a little wet while out in the boat... so i can "warm up" if needed. |
Rain, rain, rain
:btu:Worse the weather, bigger the fish.......:agree:

Rain and wind is the best weather for surf fishng. Nitwits stay home
|
LOVE fishing in the rain.
|
The cooler and lantern guys stay home because they don't own raincoats. It's a good time to go to the places you usually avoid because of crowds.

3 years ago I was fishing HUGE water, driving rain, cold wind. Met a guy out there also fishing like an idiot. We became fishing partners. We also did VERY WELL that night. |

It's a personal safety issue in a swell for me, anyway. Worked for Grandpa, works for me. I actually do still have his old oilskin sou'wester hat in my fishing room. Hey, some of you guys are laughing and shaking your head :smokin: Oh, and eels, lots of eels. |
Another piece of information would be to check out the weather and keep an eye out for lightening...
Thanks Magpie |
Fish and "true" fishermen LOVE crappy weather.
The fish love it because it churns up the surf, creating a smorgasborg of broken clams, crabs and wounded and dazed baitfish to feed on. The fishermen love it because the fish love it, and the rookies and wankers don't want to fish in the rain. Also keep an eye on the sky for lightening and on the surf for possible rouge waves. (NEVER turn your back on the ocean!) |
Rain signifies passing of a weather front which usually means good fishing.

I too, love fishing from the boat in the rain, especially a straight up and down, big-drop rain like this;
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ck/DadRain.jpg It was wild. At first, it sounded like a river in the distance, then it sounded like the river or waterfall was getting closer and closer then it poured, no wind, just slick water and you can see it hitting the surface of the water. I always do better fishing in the rain than on sunny days. LOVE IT!, and will be doing it tomorrow and the next 3 days. |
Im heading out right from the office tonight. If its not weedy it should be decent tonight.

it always seems to happen to me when it rains, once in chatham out in front of the light we parked it was down poring an windy my buddy got dressed w/ raing gear an waders an Isat an drank my coffee an ate my muffin, well he walked out an came back in about a while later carring a huge fish, said all the bait was washed up on the beach an the fish were at his feet eating away:fury:
2 time was just a few weeks ago pouring out, got a coffee an muffin drove to the parking lot, an 2 guys were at the back of there trucks w/ a couple 40" fish said Imissed it again, got dressed walked out an NOTHING:fury:it was over again. this will never happen AGAIN :smash:thats what I say now. GOOD LUCK GOOD PLUGGIN:) |
I hit the east end last night for a couple of hours at low and was rewarded with no rain, plenty of bait in the water (sand eels) and 10 bass up to 40 inches.
It was a blast. It reminded me of what October can be like, but only in July. |
Fisherman Tim -
That's a solid report. Adrenaline get you through the day today? :musc: |
On your 666 post no less. Don't know why I notice these things?
|
Keep the things you don't want wet in a zip-lock in the highest pocket to your face as possible. (smokes, phone, cumberlandfarm's microwave cheeseburgs, etc......)
|
I fish the same, the only difference is the foul weather jacket, with a hood.
|
been fishing in this snotty weather all day...loving it...
