Life Time Acheivement Question
 

What individual fisherman has personally caught the most fish fifty pounds or better in their lifetime? I don't know the answer to this question but maybe some of you guys do.

I'm sure no one knows. Alot of really good fishman keep there mouths shut. They don't brag and post pics of the fish they catch/kill.

I bet it was a narragansett indian in 1432. Tackle was a net made out of vines stretched across the mouth of the narrow river in late may :hihi:

Agreed!! I know a guy that has a few and hundreds in the 40's, but they are all catch & Released and never tells anyone.

Ray Jobin is a good guess along with that older guy I wanted to see in Narragansett a few years back with DZ :smokin:

There is a gentleman who fished the backside of Fisher's Island that had documented 55 fish over fifty pounds fishing commercially from that area over a long period of years. I knew his name once but age fogs my mind and I cannot recall it right now.

there are a few from the r.i. surf, who you never hear about on any board, who do not sell out, have gotten quite a few in their lifetime. no self promotion of any kind. just get er done.

I think we're talking about the same guy, Flap - but I seem to be suffering from early-onset Oldtimers Disease, too.

I dunno, then again, maybe it's not all that early for me...

He still does.He and his wife took 6 fish over 50 from one hole a couple years ago,in a week.I managed a 42.I have no qualms saying RayJ's WIFE,is a better fisherman than most.

It is his girlfriend, not wife. And she's having another great year.
I have been told no one has caught as many striped bass than RayJ. I have also been told Ray is the guy who started using scup instead of pogy. The Raider can put up fish.

Someone mentioned Sherwood Lincoln.How is he?He has what I believe to be the greatest catch on a single outing,two 64# fish in one night.Second to that is Ray Mascierelli with two 59's almost back to back on the same day.You just got to admire guys who love what their doing and WORK hard at it.

In fact, saw Steve and the Mrs on Sea Wolf the morning of the charter my brother-in-law and I took with Corey, as usual they had just limited out on fluke. Told Steve about Scott's 1st bass, the 35# -Steve shook his hand and said "Welcome aboard."

Yup, one of the all-time greats in my book.

I have been told that John Martini, Sherwood Lincoln and Ray Jobin all have 50 plus bass over 50 pounds. Wow! From the surf, I don't know who has the most. I do know that Pat Abate has at least 5, maybe more. Tim Coleman has 3 and one over 60. #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& has 1 from surf and 1 from boat with a 60 also from the boat. Also, I bet some surfmen fishing the Island in the 80's had a few. Some of the islanders had great scores back then basically because they lived there. In addition, Al Knie from LI has a few(?) under his belt. As does LIer Billy Lagakis and wrote a great book about his striper exploits. If I think of any more I'll chime in. Oh, I can't forget a rod and reeler I know who will remain nameless, has alot of 50's, catching 2 in one day and 4 in a weeks time to name a few of his accomplishments. These guys are amazing.

Catching a 50 pound striper is a real accomplishment. Alot of great boat and surf fisherman out ther have never done it. It's like pitching a no hitter in baseball, it is rare indeed. So it gives you a better idea of just how good these gentleman are and how much time they put on the water.

More surf 50's-- Frank Daignault- 6 I think. Jerry Slyvester had 6 or 7 I'm told.

Our friend and member here, Sauerkraut, has five, 3 in one night all surf caught. ( and all on plugs!!!!!!!!!!):uhuh:

From the surf, I dunno - Iron Mike has to be up there.

The Iron Wonder has 2 60#s from the surf but I'm not sure how many 50's :huh:

I believe it's more then that mike has got to be right up there as for as surf goes.

I don't know if I should start a new thread with this but I do find it interesting. I've been reading "Eastern Tides" again this past week and Daignault discusses why 50 is such an important #.


So Who here has a 50? if would you mind telling us about it and whether it was surf or boat?
