LOOKING FOR A NEW PLUG BAG.HAVE A PRECISION PAK, LOVE THE BAG BUT THE TUBES BRAKE WAY TO EASY.ACTUALLY THE BOTTOMS PUSH OUT.I KNOW AQUASKINZ,HUNTER,SURFCASTER,CANYON, BW ETC... LOOKING FOR SOME INPUT

I think the medium Aquaskinz bag is just about perfect as a high-end option. I've also owned several Canyon bags and they're durable but don't function as nicely.

I've also seen people happy with an army surplus bag and some home made tubes. Each to their own...

A few years back we were heading to Block Island for the week and I left my plug bags on the mainland. Fished for days with just a few ho'd plugs in a small belt bag. The fishing sucked but not lugging that awful thing around was awsome :hee:

single row VS is my choice. after a few season's using the AS single row I switched over to the VS because its much lighter and won't go back. i'd love to get a single row hunter, but never will because of the cost, they look sweet though.

i'll back clogston on the VS bag but the single row aquaskinz is also a great choice. the skinz bag has a nice pouch to stuff things other than plugs into but the vs bag also has plenty of room to cram rubber etc. around the tubes.

for me the ultimate double row is the aquaskinz bag with van staal tubes. very secure and also lightweight. the double row vs bag is not all that secure while the double row skinz bag tubes are a little on the heavy side for me.

I second the med. Aquaskinz. Single row holds enough plugs (for me atleast) and the pouch has plenty of room for plastics. Also there are slots for bucktails and tins and a pork rind pouch. Only set back is that the tubes will not fit very many dannys or metal lipped swimmers. Good for needles, pencils, redfins, etc. I think it is fairly light but have never used a VS or hunter. I am guilty of using an old WWII army surplus bag for awhile until it broke.

The Precision Paks are nice for the money.Replace the tubes with better ones.Much cheaper option.

Another vote for the single row Aqua Skinz, top quality.

If you are hoofing it at night, the tall/small 3 tube AquaSkinz is all you want. That will give you room for 2 metal lips, 4-5 needles, a skin plug (in the pouch) and a darter or bottleplug......plus a means to carry water, pliers, bug repellant (I use the individual Off packets), teasers, and a spare light. Keep the strap short and swing it into the small of your back while fishing.

V.S. single row#1 or Aqua skin medium #2. Nod goes to aqua skin being cheaper and more versatile. Can't go wrong with either. If you travel light or you mostly live eels, get the small tall Aqua skin. It's a great bag.

I too would love a Hunter. It's alot of $ but I hear they are great. Maybe some day.

I would think there are sailmakers or marine canvas guys in RI that would be glad to make some. Especially if they can get Hunter price.

The design of the med Aquaskinz Bag cant be beat, however, I have recently come to the realization that the materials used are not only of low quality but prone to getting hooked to the point you gotta tear the fabric to remove the hook. My large VanStaal bag never has this problem. Am I the only one?

I'M tempted to purchase some high quality sail canvas and have a tailer reinvent my Med Aquaskinz to hook friendly bag.

thanks for the input will try to replace the tubes for now,while i check the a.s. and the v.s. wish i could check a hunter before i commit lots a dough you could spend on plugs.

I'd say go with the bags stripatackle is making.Home made in MA .I bought a few of his tubes and they beat all the others hands down.I squeezed three of his tubes trimmed down in my AS small tall.Support your local guys.He sells the tubes seperately and will cut them to size.

Tall/small Aquaskinz has done me well on a belt (haven't been able to get used to casting with a strap over the PFD I wear) - the belt also holds the pliers, lip gripper. The bag slides round easily to the front and is very accessible and comfortable.

It carries a line of tubes, a smallish tackle box, jigs and has enough space at the front for my leader pouch.

The only gripe that I have is that the woven material has a really annoying tendency to snag on the hook barbs from the lures in the tube which can make things interesting trying to remove them...

those tubes are a little on the heavy side.

TBD- I had alot of problems with the medium AS bag. Straps ripped off after 3/4 of a striper season. I like the bag, so I brought another. But I think I like the VS bag better .

small aquaskinz bag 3 tobes,places for bucktails & tins.3 tubes holds 3 poppers 1 tube etc for other 2 tubes.agree with barbs causing problems but i crush my barbs so it isn't a problem.has 2 side pockets for pliers etc.took strap off free sw sportmans mag bag ang use it for shoulder strap works great.

another vote for the aquaskinz small & small tall on a belt. and same as others - i catch the webbing also but its a minor pain in the butt. dannies can be a tough squeeze but i mix it up in my bag and can find the right combos for each tube. i'd like to experiment with some new tubes. that local guy's might be worth a shot.

I'd like to check these out, does he have them at any tackle shops?

I destroyed a medium AS bag in less than 1 week fishing out in california.

If you take the tubes out it makes a nice jig bag though.

Funny, Ize wuz justa talkin a to tbag thez otha nite ezactly abouts da problemo with the aquaskiz bags. ize gots da double row and single row shoulder bags, and the short belt pouch (cuz thez dids not hava the tall when Ize buyed it). Habs needlez and otha hookers get stuck in material and is major PIA to get out. But then agains, I uze my plugs so much thats da hookers rust offa in the bag. He advized to wrap lid in duct tape cuz youze knows whats they say about duct tape... if you can't duck it, f-it. If wet suitin, the tall belt 3 tube. And a bucket of eeeeeels.

i had the same problem twice. supposedly, its been resolved on newer bags, but i switched to the vs so I don't know.

the straps on the belt bags get pretty torn up too, i wrap them in duct tape where they come in contact with the belt and that seams to get rid of that issue

My AS is torn to pieces on the sides of the bag. Straps are held on by a string. Still has taking a beating over the last few years.

I wear the medium AS bag on a wider belt I got from a dive shop. I slide it from side to back as I fish. Hooks get caught all the time. I keep a pin with a handle in the bag now so when they get caught I stick the pin in with the hook and make room for the barb to back out. I wish I carried this in the past. It works a lot better than the method they use in the emergency room : )

Had the same problem with my bag. Sewed a 1" strap all the way around the inside using braid for thread. I know you shouldn't have to do this but the bag has been find ever since.

So I guess IM not the only one.
