Effin' Bloos are in...
Had my biggest bluefish ever today, swallowed a whole pogie. Pulled it onboard and was was going to release it. As I put the hookout tool in his mouth, he got me good. Sliced the top of my workinghand index finger from first to second knuckle, deep. Now I'm bleeding good. First aid kit, wrap tightly with gauze. Cut the leader, pitched him, and headed to the mooring. 2.5 hour visit in the ER for cleansing, closing and antibiotics..... at least I talked them into the glue sutures.
So they're in. And I am gonna get one of Clammer's bloofish behavior modification tools onboard tomorrow! |
Dam, glad your alright. Look at the bright side Night, could have been much worse.
|
Glad he left your fingers Ross! Any size?:heybaby:
|
Didn't measure, I was so pissed at myself.... maybe 34-35 inches???
Gotta change over to righty conventionals for tomorrow.... He got my lefthand, and I'm in a splint. The teeth just glanced me. I can't imagine if he had gotten a hold of me... |
I had one get me a couple of years ago. The was not nearly as bad as yours but man did it bleed. It must have bleed for 2 hours.
Hope it heals up fast for you. |
ross that sucks. invest in waterproof bandages. they got this stuff called tegaderm that works good for keeping wounds clean and dry. let me know if you need any. maybe i'll see you at spot one night.
|

I met a nurse the other night and she told me that the newport hospital had a patient a few years ago who was 'de gloved' by a bluefish. The guy for what ever reason stuck his whole hand down the fish's mouth and the fish clamped down on him and his reflex was to pull back, which turned his hand inside out- his palm and top of his hand was tangling from his finger tips...
yuck.. |
experienced the same yesterday ross,up in gloucester, minus the almost lost finger. I already did that once and I don't want to repeat that fun any time soon.

when in doubt
:behead: |
Very first thing -- always give the blues the nightstick treatment!
|
Personally I always have my left hand clamped around boofishes gills, so it isn't going get the chance to do anything to me. I don't attempt anything with bluefish until head is secure.
|
It's amazing how affective those teeth are, especialy on rigged Sluggoes. You hardly feel the bump and then all the effort you put into rigging is snipped in half in a blink... YEAH-HIT 'M HARD!!

NEVER>EVER >>.been bitten or sliced by one of them M/f #$%^&*()
I,d post photo,s /but the sh it would start again ;; I find it hard to believe ,that seasoned fisherman / continue to get bit or hooked trying to get the hook out or release it ;; guys bust my balls >>.but I really have to wonder on the lack of F#$%^&*( common sense used by>>.so>>called seasoned fisherman ;; :fishslap::nailem: |

crap Ross, did you bite him back?
hope you keep it clean it should heal quick |
Ross even though it was cleaned professionally
in the O R i'd be real careful around fish blood for about a week if i were you heal up soon... |
As Mikey would say "don't bring them in green"
|
Just when you think they are all done they try to kill you. It's a beautiful and natural thing about them. They are EVIL Thats why I love them they are the most exciting fish to catch.
|
I've used super glue myself instead of going in for stitches. Would've saved you a few hours in the emergency room.
|
nine eels halved by blues tonight, it FOUR different locales.
|
Hope the wound heals well. Those bogas make a good subduer also. Couple a wacks across the forehead usually slows 'em down some.
|
When they shred all the eels thats when its time for the 3.5oz Robert's Ranger. Works for me.

Glad your allright... hate 'em myself,I use an ARC dehooker on the lucky ones.. the rest become lobster bait.... S.O.B. 's made their way to the mouth of the Merrimack with a vengence last night.... I've got lobster bait for this afternoon.
|
Had my line cut off while chunking yesterday in the Merrimack and my buddy was live lining a Mac and pulled it out of the water missing it's lower half. They love to do that to soft baits too but they are fun to catch.
