A painting question
I bought various sizes of mesh from Walmart the other day and have been messing around with adding scale effects to my plugs. I was wondering if anyone has any tips. When I spray over the mesh after it'd been stretched over the plug, the paint tends to collect along the edges of the mesh thread, as opposed to filling in evenly. I'm using rattle cans and I'm beginning to wonder if they don't give me enough control. Either too much seems to come out and things get a bit runny or if I hold the can back, there's over spray, etc. In either case, I don't seem to be able to get even coverage. Any suggestions? Also, any hints on when you know that the paint is dry enough to lift the mesh off the plug?

The small mesh, toule, would probably be hard to do with a rattle can as you have to do very, very light coats to get the pattern.
If you are going to use rattle cans try a bigger pattern, like an onion bag or cherry tomato bag....holes are bigger By the way.....where you been hidin? |
Been swamped with work. Hired people, moved the office out of the house. Now I hardly have time to fish!

Very light coats. keep the spray can as far away as possible.

Thanks guys! A big help for sure! I'll post a few of my efforts in a day or so. Trying to put together some swimmers and jerk baits for my trip to the Adirondacks to target big pike. And maybe a pogie or two for when I get back....

For Pike a slow sinking swimming Super Strike type popper works very well. Darters too

Lowes sells a plastic screen material in the rainspouts and gutter area, this has worked for me.
