Switch line for winter???

I usually fish 17# mono w/ 30# mono leader. Is that ok for the cold?

I've read some posts that talk about using braided line but is it really necessary?

Thanks,
Rob

Can't say that I have any trouble tiht the mono I've used....

Only comment....last year I was fishing in Jersey on New Year's Eve Weekend, and it was COLD.....like teens some mornings....let's put it this way....a shad chunk froze on my hook after 15 minutes out of the water....

So, to my point....I was having a lot of trouble with Floro leaders breaking off on the cast....granted, it was 4-5 oz of lead plus at least that much again in chunks....but never have that problem other times.

I tend to believe that flouro leaders get brittle or something when it's THAT could......

I've had some problems with Ande on conventionals when cold and Big Game is somewhat noticeable but not quite as bad. Big thing would be maybe to drop a little in test strength as the fish tend to be smaller... But what will you be fishing for & where?
