Great Day From Shore Yesterday

Hey Guys-

I was fishing from shore yesterday morning on the south shore. I started drifting eels at 5am. At about 5:15 the water started exploding with bass and the gulls started shrieking!!

No matter what I tried, the fish wouldn't touch the eels, so I swiched to a gray and black top water plug...That was it! I began by casting the plug as far out as I could and reeled the plug in as fast as I could. If the lure was alive, it would've felt as if it were running the gauntlet!! The lure was getting hit constantly.

The party ended as soon as the sun broke the horizon. Coincidentally, the low tide mark was right around the same time as sunrise (+/- a few minutes), so I dont know if the tide was the culprit behind last call for the bass or the sunrise.

All in all I caught 4 fish, my biggest being 29". It was the most unbelievable time I have had from shore. Its just too bad it didn't last longer!!!:fishin:

During blitz conditions put the eels away. Sometimes the bass want a topwater plug retrieved really fast. Tins retrieved fast work well when they are feeding like that, but its hard to resist watching them hit topwater.

Thanks. I have been wondering if there were some cows lingering beneath the blitz that I missed by using the top water plug. Maybe a tin midway through the water column or a plastic bouncing off the bottom would've allowed me to land one of them.

What do you guys think?

good idea

Good idea going down for big bass under a blitz. South shore
beach is sandy and a tin or bucktail bounced off the bottom
would do it. Slowly, slowly. Puffs of sand are an attractant.
Try it next time. Tight lines.
:lurk:
