guys with pick-ups
 

how do you guys transport your rods and reels to your spot/s? i normally slide the rear window over and run em from the dashboard (butt end of rod rests on dash) out to the back window.

is there a better way of transporting? how do you do it? :huh:

For now I put some foam pipe insulation on the bed extender and then just lay them in the back and secure with a bungee chord.

Looking to get a cap and a rod rack for the roof real soon

yeah if i do run em out the bed ill wrap em in a towel :)

the cap with the rod rack seems to be the number one way to go, but did not want to spend the $$ on one once my dad hands down the truck. :ss:

steve, We got our rod rack cheap, like 60 bucks. I'll find out more about it and let you know. It holds 3 11 foot rods.

Roof rack w/ Hunter rod vault ( 4 rod holder) bolted to it on a Titan crew cab.

Not sure if I can get this picture to the right size.

I've seen some Guys cris-cross bed tie downs in the bed of the truck reels are put cloes to the cab and the tips over hang the bed,other guys put roof racks on and some have those nice aluminuim front mount rod racks some hold coolers.
I took the cheap route and built mine about 4 seasons ago it's lockable out of the way for other cargo so far it's held up well againt the salt.

With 10 1/2' poles in the rack the max height is just under 10' & I haven't hit any low bridges:eek5:

When we don't have the camper on we bungee the fish cooler up near the cab. We have some old PVC rod holders mounted to a piece of oak and an old wall mount rod rack velcroed to the tailgate.
We bungee the pvc holder to the cooler.
They lay straight across the the top of the tailgate.
The only problem we ever have with it is forgetting that a few feet of rod hang off the back and I think I have walked into them about 100 times.

I screwed one of those things to the tailgate and lay the rod in the bed and clip the skinny end of the shaft in so it doesn't slid around or get scratched. works fine for me, and cheap.

LOL! We had them screwed onto the roof rack of our Explorer for 10 years. We are still using them on the tailgate of the pick up.
We have the ones with the screw lock.

Ski racks...work fine for me for both sports.

I use thule ski racks on my explorer. For a pick up an easy solution is a bungee across the back with the tailgate down and a few long socks to tie the rodes down. Some of those set ups are sick. Rip Runner looks like he could troll a nice spread from his truck. Anyone ever run into trouble from low hanging branches and stuff?

:fishslap:For my 87 buick century and 97 toyota corolla 2 piece rods or hanging out the window.

Mine can hold 10 rods and I have never had an issue ever with low hanging branches. 13 feet is the height limit towing a boat so all roads except maybe a dirt road will be fine for a few rods sticking up. I'll cary my offshore 9 foot gaffs in there with no problem. Mine is made with 2x4's and pvc pipe and isn't even anchored into the truck and it's been wind tested up to 95mph.

The best thing about this type of holder is your rods don't take up the whole bed and you now have room for your coolers etc...with breaking your equipment.

Tacoma w/ truck box, so I had to come up with something, since the angled racks (which I like) stuck way back from my truck...

Two PVC rod holders bolted to the top of my cooler. this is ~10" higher than my tailgate. Other end of the cooler has a 2x4 with foam and a bungee across it. Keeps the tips from dancing. Works on my softest glass rods. They hang out a few feet, but are higher than most other vehicles..
