Eels

Anybody know a shop that stay open late on Fridays and carries eels? (anywhere from the south shore to Falmouth)

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Just got the greenlight to head out for the night. :fishin:

no help in the short term... But I've learned over the years to ALWAYS have eels on hand. And frozen too.

Thanks for the info.

Not sure what time I will be getting down that way so beggars can't be choosers.;)

If you can get there earlier than midnight, you can keep eels in some seaweed and on ice and they will stay alive for over 24 hours. I keep eels in one of those minnow buckets where the smaller bucket fits into the larger one. I drilled a number of holes (from inside-out), about the size of regular phillips head screwdriver into the inside bucket, so the eels' slime could drain out. It works great and keeps them from drowning.

I keep eels in a small bucket with a fish tank airator and I keep eels alive for over a week... by then I usually use them. i change the water daily, and toss in an ice cube or two every day... keep them cool and dark...

side note... do you prefer large or medium/smaller eels? I had great luck all week on medium eels... last night I put on a larger 16/17" eel, not a hit! maybe just a coincidence

The bigger the better for most of the fishing I do. There are a few instances where I do like eels on the smaller side. If I am fishing an estuary or small creek on the southside of the cape, the bass to tend to prefer the smaller eels on the dump. I have experimented and I will catch big and school sized bass on smaller eels and the larger eels will go barely molested.

No go on eels.

Bass to 15 lbs on plugs after the lights came on.

We have to get at it soon, we should grab beers at the BP lounge again with Matt and form a plan to hit a few spots.:fishin:
