overheating cause
went out yesterday with a few people and after about 30 seconds at 4500 rpms the motor powered down and the temp light went on.
tell tail was pissin the entire time. I am happy that the motor protects itself but after I turned it off and waited a bit then started up again, no issues for the rest of the day. maybe a bag or something? she is almost due for a new impeller. Not a great feeling when your trying to head out a few miles. its a suzuki df115 05 with 190hrs. |
probly a trash bag, pile of seaweed ..or something
|
I'd definitely do thermos and impellor if it happens again
|
yep, i raised it, all was clear.
i'm going with the bag or seaweed theory. i'll let them know when I go in for service but Im willing to wager it's already logged in the computer somewhere. |
Same exact thing happend to me three weeks ago off Ptown. Even though it ran OK after it cooled had water pump replaced as it was due anyway.
|
Its fine,,,,run it....and don't worry.
Happens all the time.... Happy fishing.... |

I bet the sensor is going, or... check the ground.
The computer should give a dump of the error. Pray it ain't the computer going, that would be a nightmare. It should not happen all the time, (unless you have FICHT) then it very well could and I sympathize with your pain. |

OUCHIES Jim !!! :uhoh: I have had only one major issue with my ficht. That was last year's fuel HP pump. But on this issue, a few years ago I picked up some kelp, a shopping bag and later some paper all in one day, three overheat alarms. Keep in mind this is in Bahstan Habah.:yak5: I still did not change anything and she ran fine for years after. I;ve picked up debris a few other times too. Alarms and ficht's S.L.O.W. protection has saved many powerheads. This past winter I changed the impeller and it still looked fine. That's why I said its probably fine-go fishing. |
All good advice. Do you have a water pressure gauge? Typically the pressure drops off significantly when the impeller starts to go. If it reads normal now then I would go with the debris theory and just keep an eye on it.
Good luck! |
Is this a Yamaha...
Give us motor info |
Opps... just read its a Zuke...
Change the waterpump it sounds like its starting to go.... |
thanks for all the replies on this guys. I just have the all in one gauge that suzuki puts out in 05 and 06, not sure if it's changed in 07 and on. I think I will be investing in a water pressure gauge this off season.
Like I said I'm almost at my 200 hours so the impeller will be changed, my predicament is that I have a 7 day vineyard trip coming up at the end of the month and I would hate to have the boat out of commission for it. Im not too concerned if it's a computer or anything major since I have warranty for the next year and then most likely extending it. Heres hoping all is fine for my next few local trips. |
