The Surge is Working
An interesting storyline here that I think may be underreported.
Clearly violence in Iraq is way, way down and the GOP is quick to point out that the "Surge", specifically an increase of 30,000 or so troops is the reason why. Recent reporting in various media and the Woodward book would indicate that increased troops may be helping, but that the larger reasons for the improved conditions are mostly because we've granted more control to local Iraqi leaders (which Joe Biden has been calling for all along) along with increased special forces activity focused at removing specific threats. Just recently, it's been reported that the Joint Chiefs never asked for the Surge, and in fact were sidelined from the discussion in favor of the AEI, a notable conservative think tank. So I'm left thinking that the "Surge" is in many respects a ploy to provide cover for a policy change that might give credibility to the Democratic position. Instead of withdrawl you add even more troops while shifting policy on the ground. If it's successful you proclaim the increased troops are the reason as it cuts against your political opponents back at home. Now I may be giving them too much credit, but considering the Administration has politicised just about every aspect of the Iraq war, largely for domestic gain, it's quite within the realm of possibility. Otherwise, why wouldn't they be speaking about their policy tweaks as reason for recent successes? -spence |

I have a brother in law in charge of communications in Bagdad. The war over their has been progressing and we are winning and it started before the surge. He also tells me most of what was reported before was overblown media hype and that the good stuff that happened was kept under wraps. I no we heard that before and you most likely want listen this time . Woodward say's something it must be true. He's a greedy money grabbing ahole if you ask me.

Go ahead and thank the Army and Marine Corps for this one, don't thank Joe Biden. One quick article on the Surge - I'm out of time for more for you. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...080802918.html Quote:

The Mansoor piece seems to reflect what I'm thinking.

Wow, and he didn't even credit Joe Biden. What an ingrate. Well I for one, thank God (oops, sorry) for Joe for setting everthing straight over there.
|
Don't forget to save some gratitude for Harry Reid for his unyielding support in facing down the enemy and leading the courageous path to victory. We couldn't have done it with Biden and Reid.

I like how the Surge is talked about in the past tense, while we still have 150K toops in theater, with no plans to lower. -spence |

Palin's a dope. T&A injected into the campaign by the republicans who must have called Madison Avenue on how to sell the McCain campaign to appeal to the masses. Sex sells, good looking woman on the cover of magazines and on the pages within always catch your eye.
She's a bubble, she is getting her Warholian 15 minutes. We don't elect Vice-Presidents, we elect Presidents, she's a pr tool. Without her McCain would already be doomed. God, If I hear him say pork barrel one more time I am going to Puke!!!!!!! When will he say anything pertinent to the country's current dilemmas? He talks, the boredom sets in and suddnely she bursts out of a cake to win the crowd back. Her voice is annoying as hell, she sounds like she did the voice over for Howie Mandel's "Bobby" cartoon characters mother. Besides being an evangelical's dream girl. Praise God and pass me the K-Y! I guess it's okay to have eveangelicals run our goverment, forgetting church and state seperation as called for in that old document we used to revere. Isn't that why we are fighting Bin Laden? Doesn't he want his religion to rule his state as in Saudi Arabia? Okay for us, not for him. He's a radical, well we have religious right types who blow up abortion clinics, shoot doctors working there for our version of God. Evangelicals scare me as much as Islamic militants do and their threat will need to be addressed someday as well in this country. McCain/Palin, it's a joke and most of the country, as usual and as always not very bright are buying into it. I am going to be sick now, excuse me.:crying: And where are the women's minds in this country. Voting for her just because she is a woman? Isn't that a bit sexist in itself? This country is so screwed up. |
You should be such a dope. I think your comments and comments like yours will only push the tide more towards the McCain/Palin ticket.
Unless you were joking then it was pretty funny. |
