How MANY inches for a.................
46#er and up, on avg, since i've never caught one over 35#.
in the event that King Neptune wants to send a coupla BIG GURLS my way this w/e, i would like to know a ballpark inches range for being worthy of lugging her out of the surf and down to the nearest certified weigh station. no need in killing a striper that won't impact our standings. while i'm aware that weight as it relates to "inches numbers" are girth dependent and am familiar with the over 50#'s 1" per lb general rule, i'm just trying to know which ones to cull and which ones to KEEP. i'm not saying that i will be so blessed, but THIS IS the FINAL PUSH!!! this is it, BOYZZZZ, time to Land sum LAHHHHGE! good MOON fer it! and since i'm back to work, looks like this will be the final w/e for me. thanks in advance, gents, and May the forage rise up to meet you!! :kewl: :kewl: :kewl: |

Girth and a having a full belly will make a big difference ina fish that big.
My 42.5 was 49", but there was nothing in it. So I guess you're looking for something around 48"+ with a good belly to it. |
the 2 I have weiged in for the Cup were 49 inches, 46.15# and 50.5 inches 46.2# massive heads, no bellies....The other big girl weighed a lot more and was only 49inches..........you'll know when you got one cause you'll need to change your pants.

THAT!!!!

and those are out of my tax bracket for the time being. and yes, ivan, the question was about length being a determinate for weight. i am simply interested in a general idea of how many inches does a LAHHHHGE make, in an effort to help with Team S-B's standings during these final days of The Cup............... shore would be NIIIICE to land a DOOOOOZIE!!! :jump: :jump: :jump: |
I had a 52" fish that went #44, I still feel robbed.
|
Over about 45" the weights can vary a lot. At the shop I used to work for we weighed a 48" bass that went 30# even, and at the same time some 48" fish could be 50#. That's a 20# swing, so there is no set length for a 46# fish, but I'd say around 47-50" there's a chance it's close to that with exceptions at either end.
I usually know I've got a real good fish when I go to lift it out of the wash and it takes two-hands. :musc: That's a great feeling :kewl: |
like other's have said, it varies alot. i'd say 48" on average, 47" if it has a big gut. I had a 46" fish go 44.25 lbs last year and it had an 18-20" bluefish in its gut. I also had a 49.5" fish go just over 40 lbs, but it looked thin.
And redlight's right, you'll know it when you see it. A 40 just looks different than a 35, and a 45 just looks different than a 40. I have no experience over that but I assume a 50 will just look bigger than anything else. |
I got a fish one time off Highland light that was 54" and 43#. Another time I had one that was 46" and 46#, so you never know. On average, the above posts are pretty accurate. I think Sea Dangles 44# fish this spring was only 45", but was very thick.
Catch them first , weigh them later I always say. Fish doesn't need to be 46# plus, either. 36# and up will help as there's a couple teams right in our weight bracket now. Every ounce counts. |
as a starting point...47"
it all depends of shoulder size, whats in her gut, ect a few years ago i had a 47" fish that was anorexic....weighed 29lbs last year a 47 weighed 41.88 this year a 48 weighed 44.87 it all depends....a 40 looks a lot different that a 35 |
At the risk of sounding like Grampa, who walked 6 miles to school everyday barefoot in the snow, there was a time when if a fish was 48" or more, you could pretty much figure a pound an inch.
