Received my Harnell and Penn Staal back yesterday from the MTV show "Pimp Your Rod & Reel." Hopefully the pictures do the work some justice. Dave T did (imo) a fanstastic job on customizing the Penn Staal.

he was just starting to do them I think he only had done 2 at that time.wasn't sure what he was going to ask for them as some one else was doing the drilling.I'll pm you the name of the shop as there not a sponsor here.

Looks like he did a decent job. I am curious what he does to the raw aluminum to keep it from corroding after he has removed the anodizing with the machining process.

Thanks guys. it's a Penn 704 & The Harnell is 10' 1 piece, Hesh2 bought the rod 40 years ago and it has tremendous sentimental value and seen many a fish. I'm so fired up I've been taking casts in my backyard with the rig. Dave T is a friend and does take orders and usually has a quick turnaround time on the customization. Still curious about how he seals the aluminum once the anodizing is cut away. I am not trying to be a nit wit and applaud his nice workmanship but I see the effects of salt water on machined materials in my line of work so I am a little skeptical on the durability of the finish on the cut away areas. Thanks.

Thank you everyone for the kind words about my work. I will not respond in these threads about cost or availbility, I dont feel that is appropriate. Iceman 6 has posted my contact info and would like to leave it at that. As far as the Professors concerns they are correct but unnessary. The 700 series reel were never anodized, they were painted with a baked black enamel. The only anodized parts are the handle and gold/silver spools.Corrosion on the bodies or rotors would occur whenever a crack or chip would allow contaminents under the finish. After I machine the rotors they are 100% stripped and powder coated gloss black. As for the spools, in the past after machining I would strip and reanodize them black but I am considering powder coating these also in the future. Powder coating gives a superior finish than enamel because it is extremly tough and yet remains semi-flexable, thus resisting cracks or chips. I have done more than 60 reels over the last few years and have not witnessed or been notified of any failures in the finish.
