Hey Skin Fans......

Now is this thing cool or what? :D
|
That sure is different. It ought to swim nice. How much does it weigh? I'd lose the rear hook if it were mine.
Definately unique. |
Wire looks a little on the thin side, think its been replaced?
|
if you even think of throwing that....
|
Goose, I think it's 100 percent original. The wire holding the hooks on is real thin, which were my first thoughts too.
Something else to fool around with this winter. Seawolf, was gonna use the band saw on it. |
how long is that lure? i have seen homemade things similiar to it that is used for trolling whole squid for marlin, tuna and wahoo's. that spike helps hold the squid on top but still needs to be sewn a bit to stop it from washing out while it crashes through the tops of a wave. Is it to small for that ?
|
i just realized that by the title of your post that it is for eel skins. i have never used one or even seen one used. i am assuming that the lure in the picture would be much to small for a whole squid. i thought you were curious as to what it was. sorry for the confusion.

Tattoo : It's funny, when ya start lookin' into this whole skin jig thing , how many different styles/models that guys have come up with thru the years. Lota thinkin' goin' on out there about these buggers. ;)
That's a nice one, but I wouldn't want a fifty testing the strength of that hook/wire connection. |
JPowers,
Maybe a better picture is needed, but this thing isn't made from lead. It actually has a wooden head with a small swimming lip on it. ther is a hole through the piece of wood to blow of the skin. |
Tat : Well then...... that is truly weird. I wonder what the guy who built it had in mind. Probably either completely nuts or one sharp dude - ya never know !
|
Its a skin plug , not a skin jig. You put a big long skin on it and swim it slow so the skin makes a big S shape behind the head. the swimmer blade provides the motion to get the skin to take the S shape. Best fished when relatively calm surface conditions.

Looks like a whistle to me:p
