Blues - Move or keep fishing?

I fished a spot in SoCo Thurs, Fri and Sat nights. Had decent action from blues with some pretty big ones over 30” but the stripers were few and far between. The few stripers I did manage were all pretty small. Mainly fished live and rigged eels but threw some plugs as well.

I was wondering if you are looking for stripers but catching blues do you continue fishing the spot reasoning that if the blues are holding in the area there is probably bait and the stripers will be there too or do you move to another spot?

An old gansett fishermen once told me if theres lots of blues , there is probally loads of bait. I will ussally keep fishing there. My biggest fish this year came from weeding through lots blues and schoolies . It took an eel that a blue had just cigared and i let sink down.

fish under the blues. jigs etc. fast sinking plugs. blues and bait = bass

What he said. Big chomping blues often have fat lazy bass under them.

Ditto--I'd throw on a jig or a heavy piece of metal and try to get underneath the blues. Something they can chew on if you can't get under them without hurting, but heavy enough to at least have a shot of getting under them.

If I couldn't--hey, you're still catching 30"+ blues. :uhuh:

I rarely leave fish to find fish

Put the eels away and fish with crappie plugs.

I keep fishing it. Remember if theres food for the blues there is food also for the bass and bass wanna eat! Many say to fish the bottom but I have hooked bass on topwater among the blues...so you just never know....

I would never leave.Just would keep adjusting my retrieve, bait, depth and anything else until I found a Bass.I love catching blues also so it's a win win.

If I was all by myself steadily into bass 30+ lbs and I saw big blues down the other end of the beach, I would head for them instead. :fishin:

If its a blitz, work the outer edges with something that will sink fairly quick. What lies beneath could very well make your day/year.

Fish it :fishin:
