Anguilla Rostrata retrieve
Lets say you are down to your last Anguilla Rostrata (american eel) and its dead, very dead. Do you retrieve it faster with a few twitches, or do you bring it in low and slow?
I have had some decent success throwing a dead eel on a Pt. Jude wobblehead, and even in one case on a Pt. Jude butterfish. I plan on experimenting with some rigged eels and eel-bobs for my dead eels going forward. How do you do it? |
Circle,
I actually prefer fishing Morto Anguilla's or those very close to it. I fish them the same way as live with little wrinkles in the retrieve when called for. Retrieve is very slow and I upsize the hook to 8/0 or 9/0 and hit the fish right on the strike because they tend to drop a dead eel quicker. My preferences: 1. Fresh almost dead. 2. Fresh dead. 3. previously frozen. 4. brined. |

Interesting on the hook size with dead... been cleaning out my freezer w/ all the bluefish around... good tip! |
