Turnpike layoffs

Why do they have to wait a year...what are these extra 100 collectors doing right now. Oh wait what have they been doing since they put in Fastlane...:rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao :

Coupe Deval has to pay for the 1900 people he owed jobs too and has hired since he took office.

$70,000 is quite a lot of money. Just wait though, they wont close the tolls and there will be other people working there. The ones getting laid off just didn't donate to any democrat running for election or re-election. Quid pro Quo.

The people making the most money wont take the hit because of seniority.

It would goad me paying those tolls for a road that was long-ago paid for. Even my wife thinks other roads should have tolls or there should be no tolls at all.

Collectors make $70,000/year, to say "$2.10. Thanks." Not to mention state benefits?????

I believe some of that comes in the form of hazards pay, but still, that's a stupid amount of money for a job that's the equivalent of working at McDonald's, minus the headaches that come with dealing with customers.

and they have some of the highest on the job injury rates in the state.
Fall off stool - back injury

Fall off stool - cash box falls on head - back injury concussion

Hand stuck in cash drawer - carpal tunnel syndrome

Don't forget the thermos spilling hot liquid all over lap.

striperman36 09-18-2008 09:10 AM

Yeah that one too

The skin mag on the cash drawer, slamming manliness with the drawer bottom injury too.

Hand stuck in drivers window

Constipation caused by inability to leave stool to take a crap

$70k to stick your hand out and collect money? The computer even does all the counting! The boredom must tear them up though.

maddog2020 09-18-2008 05:44 PM

They should have lost their jobs back when Gov. Weld was in office IMHO !

Do away with the tolls <---<<< what ever happened to that idea ???

$70 K - WTF! On the average they still make over $45 K. Forget where I got that number from - that is still decent pay for UNSKILLED labor. Oh, I'm sorry - you need how to do 2nd grade math. ;)

JohnnyD 09-18-2008 07:22 PM

maddog, according to the bostonchannel.com article, the *average* pay is $70k. There are actually people in those booths making over $70k.

Has anyone else noticed that everyone of the digital signs on the SE Expressway are practically begging you to get Fast Pass? These layoffs have been in the works for a long time. I believe I also heard that there may be the potential of a toll for those entering Boston from both directions of 93.

What they should do, is put a toll up at the NH border for people entering the state, make the out of staters help. Or is there a MA one there already? Been a while since I've been up there.

there is a great deal of auto exhaust you breath in on that job...
not to nice of a work environment....

i hate the fast lanes now.....they are crazy with the way people scream thru there or are bottle necked going to a single cash lane out of four.... total pain in the ass...

This is a sore spot for me! I travel to other states often and pay the tolls every time. the NH commuters come to this state to work and tear up our roads. No tolls except their own and they avoid the toll booths by using back roads.:lossinit:

:af:I think we should put a toll booth on the roads leading into MA at 3, 93, 95 and all the other decent roads leading into MA. At a buck a day each way would sure as hell pay off a heck of a lot of our repairs and leave a bunch left over for education. If any of you have never seen the road traffic during rush hours on the above roads you should stake it out and see the golden goose!:af:

Swimmer 09-19-2008 12:09 PM

I can tell you one thing, they'll need two hundred more troopers stationed on the other side of the tolls chasing people who don't pay the tolls. Troopers all make more than 100 grand. Yah lets get rid of the toll takers.

NH folks pay state taxes and get nothing in return...More money from them means less money from us.
