Fishing Frozen/Dead Eels??
The b&t store only had frozen eels tonight...From your experience, what is the best way to fish these puppies?? When they thaw, I am assuming they aren't as limber as they were when they were alive, so should I loosen them up by bending them back and forth?
Are they even worth using or should I stick with plugs tonight? Thanks! |
Rig 'em. Some say that that is even better than live. Do a search here, plenty on rigged eels.

I fish dead eels some times i put on a egg sinker and fish them like a rubber worm.with a stop and drop rod action.

rig them or throw them on a pj wobblehead
should be able to find good info on rigging with google. i'm actually becoming more fond of rigged than live. fishing them side by side, they produce as well or better in my limited experience, and allow you to get more fish because you can muscle fish in and release them quick. also, they're alittle more hands on and therefore more fun. for the wobblehead, i just stick the hook down their throat and out the top of their head. then tie the mouth closed over the barb with a small cable tie. just grab the head and tail with rags and pull - you'll feel the vertebre loosen and then they'll be really limber |
