Ideal Fall Nights!
My idea of a great fall night headed out fishing is a cool October Saturday night, driving to my favorite spot, the moon is between 1/2 and 3/4 full and the sky is cloudless and star filled, I have Sinatra Saturday Night on the radio, the air is crisp and the wind barely noticeable at about 5 mph......the water when I get there has a gentle roll as the tide is almost low. Swimmers are on the menu.....3 oz. Danny's and "Prey" swimmers.......the fish are in tight and smashing the slowly moving swimmers as the tide turns to rise, clobbering them so hard you can see the water erupt 75 yards out! I have a few more of these nights coming......hopefully they play out pretty much as I describe......the memories will warm me through the coming winter!:fishin:
What is your ideal fall night out? |
Tonight was one of those, I was out on the new boat, didn't see another soul after the sun went down. Just started fishing off the fiberglass in the area so no fish:( but it was soooo nice and peaceful. To me late fall fishing is where my heart lies, no crowds, peace, and there is a certain smell in the air. I hate to see it go, but love holding onto that feeling as long as I can. Boats in till haloween, then back to the surf till mid November.

add about 30 degrees and im there.. it seems in the process of moving i managed to lose my fall/winter clothing... its gonna be a rough month. i've avoided the late night tides this week due to that very fact.. i'm not happy with my self,:(

Last night was beautiful - very quiet, flat surf, a tad bright. Fish on the end of the cast - I could hear the takes on a Gibbs needle a moment before feeling it. Some nice fish making quite a ruckus when hooked. Blues spitting up squid. All alone but I wasn't lonely. Nice night.

Perfect fishing nights
There are several this week and weekend. Need to know
what radio station has Sinatra Saturday night?? Steve may have CDs but some of us a still in Motorola mode. Tight lines to all for next three plus weeks. EELS win!! |
A really ideal night would be a brisk northeasterly breeze no moon, hummin' "Witchcraft" and throwing a Bigfish Bait co. needlefish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I walked outside at about 7:30 last night to put out the trash and just stopped and took a minute to stare up at the sky and listen. It was dead quiet without even the sound of rustling leaves and I found myself forgetting what I was supposed to be doing. I started having thoughts of getting in the car to head south for a couple of hours.
Then, I heard the door open and my wife ask me to come in to read my son a story and give him cough medicine before putting him to bed. Right then the mood was killed. |

Yup! Sinatra Saturday Night with Ron Delaquiaza (spelling?). Great way to spend a Saturday night! Winter on Saturday nights by a roaring fire.....yes sir!:hihi:

Stormy night full moon phase when the moon sets right as the tide starts to drop.Choppy waters and wind whipping in my face.Bait in full force and not another soul around for miles.Wife and kids are on vacation in another state and are all sleeping peacefully. That is my ideal fall night.

Fished what I thought would be an ideal fall night last night, but the fish didn't show. The night before seemed considerably less ideal, but the fish were there, and heavy.
Beyond that, if I had to choose conditions, I'd go with stiff onshore wind, heavy water that hasn't silted up yet, and either a full or new moon to keep the current running strong. |
You should never ,ever get skunked on a fall night .. :wall:

My favorite is after a few cold night the wind shifts to the south and it warms up. I remember 2 years ago in November when i went outside to get some firewood and the wind shifted and it must have jumped 20 degrees in 10 minutes, i wish i could have been on the water. Also, when a nor'easter starts to blow and its just starting to get crappy and gets progressively worse throughout the night. The season is closing soon and im amped up and the pressure drop really gets the adrenaline pumping.

Being cold, wet, and miserable and loving every minute of it.

the next few weeks are my favorite...have Quadrophenia in the truck and some other good ones...nice crisp air and hopefully a few large..then Ill be glad to knock this monkey off my back, the fish will be gone and I won't have any reason to obsess......:jump1:

Last night was a PERFECT night to fish. Southwest hard all day, dying right at dusk.Just enough white water around the rocks from a left over SW swell. Just cool enough to keep the bugs off and to prevent any sweat under your rain top and waders.. The sky was crystal clear with a very bright but not too bright half moon high in the sky. And, let's not forget it is october, the best time of the striper season around these parts and my all time favorite time to fish!
