too funny.. I made a kicking lamb stew yesterday.
I love stews. |
Let's not discount the fall soups either.

Stews are a staple on camping trips...I got a recipe for an awesome Irish Stew.
We did a venison stew while we were at Massjam w/ the Scouts. |
Mm..
first tog chowder of the year; (Vac. sealed fillets from last fall; had to make room for this year) One of my better batches. tast-e |

when i make my Beef stew ....
i cook everything separately first... carrots: i cook in water with lots of brown sugar in it so they taste sweet .... later on... the meat: i barely stir fry to seal all sides and that's it... it'll cook the rest of the way in the stew and stay real tender... potatoes: have the the starch skimmed off several times... when boiled, afterwords they are stir fried just enough to add some flavor.. s h i take mushrooms half stemmed and cut in half stir fried in butter... mmmm thicken up with a little whole wheat flour and add your other veggies of choice... just a few culinary tips for ya... today's a perfect stew day !! 40 degrees with high pressure brrrr |
I always add a Can of Guiness to my Beef Stew (OK 2/3 of a can....always leave a couple of sips for the cook)...you wouldn't believe how rich and dark it makes it.
Just can't do it on the camping trips |
knew a guy who's Itailan mom used black coffee
for the same purpose |
We just finished the first pot of Tog chowder for this year, it was good but I still have not achieved perfection.
