Am I the only one here that keeps getting a pop up every once in awhile when on the board. It say's something like Congratultions you are a winner click here to claim you prize.

Hi Specialist, Same goes for me. I have never got a pop up on this site.:confused: It's possible that your settings are mixed up but unfortunatle I don't know how to help you adjust them. One of my friends does all that stuff for me. Wish I coukd help you out but if I find out how to fix it ill let you know.

I used to have alot of trouble with popups but havent experienced any since I installed a popup stopper program from
http://www.panicware.com

You can get a trial version of it for a month at the site.
I think the program itself to buy is $19.95 once the trial period is over.
Its worth it bigtime!!!

Not here, not from me... Other than for Private Messages - I really can't stand them most of the time and wouldn't do it to you :rolleyes: ... There might be a time and place, like if there was an event or something important but I really have no plans for them.

Although i do not recall getting popups on this site, i do get them on other sites and they are very annoying !! I downloaded the trial version, thanks for the tip ;)

Nope. I'm happy to say... I have NEVER gotten a pop-up from this site!

YES, I have been getting them more often than not.

It seems when I access this site by going in without clicking an e-mail notification.

If I answer an e-mail notification---No pop-ups.

I run ZERO pop up adds, are you using AOL?

What provider are you using? There is nothing on this site that should start a popup... If you are seeing them, reply here with what they are please...

Bloocrab is right. Clean your cookies out. Check your temp folders for them too. That should solve it.

I've got pop-ups coming from sites that I KNOW don't use them (this site included) I'm almost wondering if it isn't from using Internet Explorer. My 'ol man's getting them using IE but not by using Netscape.......

For you guys that want to avoid a lot of the problems common to Internet Explorer but don't find Netscape as thrilling - check out http://mozilla.org . Great browser that Netscape is based on but handles IE info pretty good too. And it's written by people that wnt to do it without a big brother hanging over the shoulder...

Again - the popups ain't from here. I've been approached before to do them, even after being offered some sorely needed coin, but I declined... I've only mass e-mailed people once as I think many find that annoying too...

unwanted cookies.

I just opened your site through my favorites drop-down list, I got two pop-ups.

1) Microsoft Internet Explorer "search the web" window
2) Congratulations "You win" also from MIE.

I dunno what is going on.

This has only started within the past 2-3 weeks..

I thought I was rid of pop-ups, but today when I came into the site, I got a couple more. One of them was.....are you ready....

Dunno Van, they are not from here - that's about all I can be certain of (well 99.9%). Again, next time anyone gets some popups, copy the link immediately that propmpted the popup (highlight it and hit CRTL +C) and paste (CTRL +V) it onto an ASCII text editer like Notepad. Save it as a text file and e-mail it to me...

I suspect it's something else causing this and not the site. But without seeing the actual links, I cannot address where they are coming from.

I got the "NO POP-UPS" add again today.
and a second "search the web" one.\

They come up so fast i can't get the link.

I'll keep trying if it persists......(which I'm sure it will)

How do you access this site? Do you have a link stored in your favorites? Do you do a search with a search engine? Do you come from a link on another site? Do you type the URL in? What page are you on just before you come to this site?

Just wondering as this may make a difference.

For everyone getting this problem:

First - instead of coming to the boards by a link or shortcut, with all windows closed, go to http://www.striped-bass.com

Second - click on the link for the StriperTalk message boards

Another good option and general security practice (for all sites in general) is to periodically clear your IE TempInternet Files (right click on the IE button on the desktop -> Properties -> Delete Temporary Internet Files) - Also good in the same place is to adjust your file cache down to 1% of your hard drive size or 40MB or less. By default, it is set at 10% of your hard drive size and can get enourmous which does slow things down - like Virus Scan, drive optimization, blah, blah, blah...

Usually I click the link in e-mails from the site to subscribed threads.

That is what I did today when I got more pop-ups.

If I just want to visit the sie, I do have it in my favorites list.

I don't know if I get them using that.

Funny thing is I don't get them all the time.
I'll try other ways of getting in like John suggests.
