potential fines = potentially tiny fines if the owners have some connected friends.

but this could be looked at as further proof the SB fishery is moving offshore.

BassDawg 11-17-2008 06:11 PM

i would agree with tiny fines,
if it was in state waters :uhuh: :uhuh:

these mommalukes comitted their offenses in
Federal waters AND lied to tha FEDS

they should have their licenses REVOKED and pay
the steepest fines allowable by law. poachers SUCK!!
:realmad: :realmad: :realmad:

Maybe they could have their boats confiscated as evidence, and auctioned off to help fund additional operations in the future?

slow eddie 11-17-2008 06:30 PM

i for one am not shocked. this is going on as we speak. proof is a entirely different subject.

OOPS, sorry bout that :wavey:

at least they have begun to make a dent,
perhaps deter some of the rest of the

:bs: :bs: :bs:

This is a problem off the cape as well. Lot of rips behind Nantucket hold bass in the summer but are in Federal waters. Charter boats frequent them often. Think at least one guy got nabbed last year for the same thing.

fishgolf 11-17-2008 10:10 PM

At least the Feds didn't burn the spot...

(dark humor attempt...)

Was funny :tooth:

I remember an Amendment VI meeting where a couple Cape Cod Comms said they go 12 to 30 miles out all the time to get their basses...

BasicPatrick 11-18-2008 12:54 PM

I think by regulation the actual Captains are supposed to automatically loose their licenses if the charges are proven...good!!!

MakoMike 11-19-2008 08:41 AM

Happens all the time down off the SW corner of Block Island. Last year the DEM cops and the feds handed out a lot of tickets to both private and charter boats. Good!

blue oyster 11-19-2008 09:29 PM

glad to see something being done , i hope there is more to come

Goose 11-20-2008 06:24 PM

thats nothin, theres illegal immigrants takin under size bass home every day

bobber 11-20-2008 08:59 PM

yeah- the area out by Southwest (BI) is constantly getting hammered by guys "fishing for bluefish".... last year the CG was out there a lot, this year not so much........

MakoMike 11-24-2008 12:45 PM

The Viking boat, which was one of the boats cited wasn't fishing all that far off the SW corner of Block.
