Toys When You Were A Kid!
 

So what were some of your all time favorite toys when you were growing up??:happy:

Big Wheel (Wore out 2 of them)

G. I. Joe (The real ones)

Legos, Lincoln Logs, Tinkertoys, Erector Sets (Anything to build with)

Tonka Trucks (When they were made of heavy metal)

we used to make our own big wheels out of tricycles. tonka trucks that were made from real metal. One of the best toys I remember having when I was a kid was probably about a 4-6 yard pile of sand that my Dad dropped in the yard one day. took about a year to move it with the tonkas. matchbox or Hot wheels when they first started coming out. wish i had those now.
Another toy if you want to call it a toy were roof shingles. had this old shack that had been torn down. whoever tore it down left a huge pile of shingles. boy could those things fly a long way, also used to play war using specially crafted sticks for guns, and not to mention the actual rock fights with kids from another neighborhood. ahhh the good ol days

Homemade slingshot made from auto inner tubes, leather pouch and a tree crotch. Could break a bottle at 25 yds.
Red Ryder bb gun.
Kiddie Kart
Flexable flyer sled.
No TV ( color wasn't out yet!)
No Nintendo or video games.

Hmm..one memorable Christmas I got:

A Roy Rogers bedspread and a pair of RR six-gun cap pistols - guess that's why I've always found A Christmas Story so funny

The Visible Man model - I ended up painting his liver the wrong color when I was building the model :hihi:

A gas-powered model airplane, it was a Navy Corsair, damned near took my first 2 fingers off with that one, started it up right in the kitchen...

And a trumpet...

In retrospect I suppose my folks were trying to inspire me to pick a career - either a doctor, a cowboy, a pilot or a...musician, I guess, although they were widely known to smoke a lot of reefer at the time...I dunno...

So in spite of all that I ended up being...honestly, I'm not sure what really.

Guess I'm still trying to figure out what I wanna be when I grow up...:doh:

The best one though was working in my dads wood shop.

Scott.....I had the "Billy Blastoff!" He had all those conveyors and stuff that moved when you stood him on the stands??? He was cool!! Had a "Big Jim" too! Press his back and "Hiy-aaaaa"....karate chop! Bet you had AFX Slotcars too?? Jackie Stewart edition with "Magnasonic" sound??!:bounce: We had the first TV video game too.....Atari's "Pong"!!! Riveting, non-stop action....2 speeds.....slow and slower!:jester: Hey it was a big deal at the time! Johnny Bench "Pitchback".......ahhhh simpler times!

Bonanza Wagon Set. With Little Joe. Played with that for ever.
A football game called Strategy..loved it
Many bikes, they were our horses back than. we would ride the entire town.
The best one of all was when my dad came home after months and months on a submarine.

with the sliding men attached to rods that you could push and twirl simultaneously for wicked fast action

probably the best fun was with the hot mini cars that ran on the track....getting a new one of those was always a thrill... then ya modify it....and trick it out.

a small telescope.... and of course fishing rods.Gear.

i loved getting that build your own radio kit....at a very young age... when you finally completed it and heard radio on something you built yourself -you felt very much like BOND ....James BOND or Thomas Edison :btu:

Crafty....I had the "Visible V-8"!:kewl: Do kids build models anymore??

nope never had anything more than the matchboxes Larry. Never had a video game til I met my wife. Our first date we went to dinner then back to her apartment and opened up the present she got for her brother and we played Super Mario for 6 hours that night :hee:

I don't remember the karate chop, I had alot of clothes for them though. Big Josh was his buddy :hee: They had a commando camper with wheels and a back that folded down and that was awesome. I can remember playing with those in the basement pretty well. I got into scouts and somewhere around 10 I got interested in radios and electronics so everything else was no fun by that point. Space Invaders after school at Corrados Pizza there was a kid that could do scores like you never seen.

Kids don't like that stuff nowadays though I got to say my 5 year old loves his legos, lincoln logs, and he's got a train set that fills the entire room with tracks and buildings and that is a definite hit. Those are timeless toys...and ones that build on creativity and thought :kewl:

Larry and Salty reminded me of Big Jim and his rescue rig which brings back memories. He had a band you put on his triceps that when you bent his arm it would explode off.

How about the Evil Knievil action figure with wind up motorcyle and ramp. That thing was indestructable.

Did anyone have the Six Million Dollar Man with the eye you could look through? A part of his arm would pop off, exposing the bionic arm. I had many battles with Gi Joe, Big Jim and Steve Austin.

Stretch Armstrong. You could pull him into riduclous lengths without him breaking.

I had a real nice telescope when I was a kid. I think my parents spent alot of money on it and I'd spend hours and hours outside at night looking at stuff. That was a big thing back then. But like alot of stuff when I was a kid I didn't take care of things and I think it got dented at some point. Looking back that was a regret. Wish I still had it. I bought one a few years ago when Mars was close figuring Thomas would like it but man for $400 what a piece of crap we never could make it work right.

My red bike. First bike I ever had without training wheels. Man I could ride that thing everywhere no hands. I used to see how fast I could go down the street into the driveway and into the backyard handsfree :hee:

Not quite that daredevil anymore.

Funny thing, I don't remember many "toys".
I was outside ALL the time.
Skating and sledding in the winter. (seems like we had snow in FEET back then)
Kickball or whiffle ball game every single night in the warm months and my bike.
We didn't come home till after dark (when the streetlights came on).
Left as fast as we could eat our Cheerios in the morning.

The Dragon Wagon.......my all-time favorite Tonka......this is my original! Thanks goodness it was tucked away in my folks basement for years! Also my little midget Jeep!:kewl:

This Tonka Car Carrier was a gift from my parents for my 5th birthday! I can still remember how thrilled and grateful I was for such a great gift! It used to have 2 ramps that came off the back so you could drive your cars on!! This truck I got on Ebay a few years ago......unfortunately the original was lost over the years!

This truck also is my original! This Coke truck used to have little plastic cases of Coca Cola and a 2 wheel dolly to complete the package! Used this alot! Great story.....this truck was lost to me for years until one of our neighbors was moving and came across it in her garage! Man was I surprised.....like getting a visit from a long lost friend! Note how the neighbor knew it belonged to me!

I have that spacecrawler in my basement all packed away. Most of the accessories still too. They're not worth anything but memories. Good one's.

TDF! I had that moon tractor too. Wow another one I've forgotten about. THAT was my ALL time fave Billy Blastoff toy. The tracks were so well used they both broke and it got thrown away I think. Alas another thing gone :(

TDF....I had "Fort Apache", "Battleground" and the Civil War version called "The Blue and the Gray"! Spent friggin hours on the floor with those!:btu:
