Uninvited guest at Sandwich hatchery
|
That seal was the perfect bait size for white shark fishing from shore.

Mmmmm... Smoked seal......Mmmmm.......

I find that amazing. If you have been to that hatchery you can appareciate how big a feat it is for that seal to find his way into the hatchery. That was one hungry seal!
Seals do run up into Scorton Creek regularly chasing fish. I actually caught one on rod and reel in the creek. Nasty little buggers.:nailem: |
The cute little seal was later found frisking with other marine life..

I once belonged to a sportsmans club that bought fish from the American fish hatchery in Southern RI. We went there for a very enjoyable tour of the facility. The manager told us about an episode he had with a mink that got into the fish runs. he said the mink would grab a trout , bite its tail off , then stack the fish like cordwood on the side of the run. the mink didn't eat the fish , just bit off the tails and stacked them up. Strange
he also told us about a big problem he had catching an "inner city" youth who would sneak in at night with a big suitcase and use it like a big clam shell scoop to steal fish from the runs. he would put the suitcase in the water in a crowded run box and then when the fish were above the suitcase he would lift it and slam it shut then just walk away carrying the suitcase full of trout. :) |
No doubt she'll be back... Trespassing in a fish hatchery is a capital offense for seals, no? Hatchery should have handled it less publicly, so that she doesn't bring her offspring back.....if you know what I mean.
