You wouldn't have wanted to be..........

On the Woods Hole/Vinyard Haven ferry this afternoon. I watched it for five minutes coming over L'hommedieu shoal and white water was coming up over the front passenger deck and the thing was roaring up like a crab boat on the Bering Sea. Had to be blowing forty west/sou, west. In all my years I never saw a ferry plow like that.

Interesting ride I am sure for those who were on her.

I was coming back once on the Islander, the old double ender, when they had to close the windows in the snack bar because water was coming up over the bow and through those windows. I'm sure that it was also hitting the windows on the bridge.

While heading to block this past fall in a blow i was actually wondering if the boat was going to come back upright after a couple of the big ones. The biggest wave hit right as we were about to enter the harbor, the wave gained momentum as it came from ballards jettys. Quite a few people were chumming that day.

After one of the chili fests on MV the ferries were cancel but got CG permission to get the hords of beer/chili gorged rabble rousers off island what a technocolored stinky ride that was.

Chili fest is a good time though

Once, Bryan Oakley took me out in his canoe. It was a calm day, but I quickly found that if you didn't stand in the middle you might be quickly looking for a place to catch your balance.

I'll never forget that day.

I took the ferry back one March after a weekend with my wife. It was so rough I thought were were going to sink. The flag on the top was decent when we left and shredded by the wind when we arrived in WH. A couple of nit wit's went to stand up front and came back a few minutes later soaked to the bone on a wave over the front. The Bluenose to NS is no fun either on a rough day. I have done the Cat to Novie too and it was very rough with plenty of people yelling at their shoes, including my mother.

Chili Fest is always the same day as the MV Surfcasters Annual meeting and Banquet...good times

Nothing as funny as watching Charlie Cinto and John Cherico messin with the Chili Fest chicks on the Fery home.

Winter of "73" I was living on the Vineyard. Went home for Christmas. The waves were coming up over the bow of the Uncantena. I thought we were goners when the boat turned Northwest towards Falmouth. After that trip I felt I was a veteran rider of the ferry line.
