Raven 01-10-2009 04:15 PM

ooooooh not fun....

r.i.c.e. rest ice circulation elevation , i believe you'll learn

How about range of motion... dorsel flection ...

IBUPROPHEN take it with milk ..

put sweatshirt sleaves on/over your crutch rubbers for extra cushion to prevent arm pit burn

don't know which foot: but
be careful of using your other foot leg and especially your opposite hip to do everything ...because you'll burn it out
real quick ...also if your wearing one of those air cast boots
that makes your injured leg Longer.

Heal up JIM ....don't forget your vitamins !!

Slipknot 01-10-2009 05:20 PM

Wow Jim, I hope it's not so bad and heals quick. I guess now you can have the kids wait on you for a change

It's been awhile since I worked in the rehab hospital but I believe the "c" is for compression (ace bandages etc...), wrap the ice around ankle with ace wrap and elevate. As for the crutches and stairs...remember "up with the good foot, down with the bad"
Good luck with the rehab!

PNG 01-10-2009 05:44 PM

Bummer.

Never mind the noise you hear downstairs its just Ernie & me tidying up a little:devil2:

Biteme 01-10-2009 06:00 PM

Thanks for the kind words. I can't stand just sitting here, but my 10 year old daughter is waiting on me. She served me pancakes on her princess TV tray this morning :hihi: . Chris the door is locked and alarmed.

mrstriper 01-10-2009 06:00 PM

Dad 818 01-10-2009 08:11 PM

As someone who has broken both ankles more than once, the best piece of advice I can offer you is: TAKE IT EASY. Don't try to do too much too fast it will only make the process take that much longer.

wader-dad 01-10-2009 08:21 PM

Jim- I fractured my ankle a few years ago playing touch football with my kids- had surgery and got 2 plates and 9 screws. Non-weight bearing for 3 months. It sucked. But I listened to the doctors and the physical therapists and did not walk on it until they told me too. I did not want to mess it up for the rest of my life. My brother-in-law started walking on a broken ankle way too soon and it is a mess- never healed right. I did what they said and mine is good as new. I fished Cutty this fall with no problems and I ran 4 miles today. So my advice is to do what they say and get used to pissing in a bottle-cuts down on crutching to the bathroom. :biglaugh:

tynan19 01-10-2009 08:56 PM

Get well soon and rest it full term.

missing link 01-10-2009 09:07 PM

Get well soon ? are you in a cast? I broke my foot 3 yrs ago during the winter no cast it $ucked but one thing after a break the bone structure gets stronger my boots fit funny on the foot I broke , It might not happen to you .
But my left foot is stronger so that's the one I'll use to kick Clammer in the A$$ when he hits on my wife:spin:

Ya, but he was hiding inside when you locked the door. Seriously heel quickly. Spring is coming.

Flaptail 01-11-2009 10:27 AM

I know a nice cold creek that empties into the bay. If you put some waders on and go stand in it on a dropping tide, even at this time of year, it can be very therapeutic not only for your ankle but your soul as well.

Hope you heal fast.

Fish_Eye 01-11-2009 07:24 PM

Get well soon. You'll be ready for the rocks on Cuttyhunk by the time the fish return.

Rappin Mikey 01-11-2009 07:33 PM

Get wheel soon. Busted my knee in the winter some years back, was all set for the Spring run. I hope the same recovery to you.

sean curry 01-12-2009 10:57 AM

=============================================
they are tricky

with 3 ranges of motion

when you get to the exercise phase ok jim

point your toes east then west |as far as you can
:point: south then north

then rotate foot as if big toe is a thumb
point down to floor (as much as it will go)
this aint twister

then point to ceiling (as much as it will go)

then do rotations - clockwise then counter clockwise
similar to loosening up your neck

don't forget your crutches ...because hopping is bad

Bronko 01-12-2009 11:22 AM

Hope you feel better soon.:btu:
