Rod recommendations?
Need some help in making sure I'm not undergunned this year. Looking at stand up trolling rods for Penn International 50 and a Penn 114. Also looking for a spin rod for a Penn9500 that would work for deep butterfly jigging, rap X swimmers, and casting into breaking fish. Keepin in mind that the 120-150# class fish are going to grow 5-6 inches by this coming season.....

We are upgrading too. Looking at short stroke stand ups for the 50's.

If you don't want to spend big bucks for the custom jobs, look at the Penn Tuna Sticks, the white ones that rated for up to 100lb test. They come in 5'5" and 6' sizes. Calstar also makes some good rods, but for more money. I stick to e-glass rods graphite is too tender for the way I abuse them.

Penn slaammer used to make some nice white glass stand up rods. fought a 200+ big eye on one until we lost at the gaff, and it never had a problem

What do people think about the new Shimano Trevala rods?

That's too light for what was out there last year? |
I just ran accross this on Noreast. I know the guy and he has a rep for building great rods. http://www.noreast.com/discussion/vi...opic_ID=122752

I'd drive down to CMS. Every rod they sell is custom made. If they don't have what you want, they will make it for you in house.
Fishermans Outfitter would be another choice but they won't have the selection like CMS. |
the outerbanks outfitter tournement rods are nice. I have some and work great.

We also had picked up some Ande stand-up rods as well last winter when Wildwood was closing... , they are a bit lighter than some 50's but did the job fine

Trevala Heavy
I think the Trevala 6'.6" Heavy w. medium fast tip (TVC66H) should be fine. Rated for 80-200# braid. It's priced around $170. However, I'd welcome any other recommendations.
Thinking of matching it to a Diawa Saltist 50. I'd love to get the Penn Torque but it's quite a bit more expensive than the Saltist. What do folks here think about that combo? |
bumping for more discussion...

Some very good deals at the show and the CMS boys have a very good deal there.

I've got CMS stand up rods matched to my Int vsw 50s for trolling
I've got Trevala tvc-58xxh set ups for jiggin Chaos makes some nice rods also and I know they have done the msba & risaa shows in the past |
I had CMS make me a Calstar jigging stick. Picked it up yesterday, it's sweet!

Going to check out the Outer Banks rods at Boaters World after the next markdown...
