How you use your log books.

I only have two seasons worth of usable log to go from, but I have made sure to log other people's catchs who fish the same areas as I , as well as the tide the fish where caught. Is it a total crapshoot each year, or can you hone in on patterns that hold true somewhat?

I have found patterns from the last two years that where consistant one week apart, but the same moon phase.

What do you log? And, what seems to be the most useful info at the end of the year?

BassLawgs are an invaluable tool and

YES!! the patterns do repeat. last year was
a copy of '07 right down to the bait, night, the moon, and the tide.
am hoping to use '08 to tell me about '09,,,,,,,,,,,,

hope this helps, gents.

I use the TideLog. Coded everything and make notations in the book on the day I fished. Cause the moon, sun and tide is pretty visual in this book, it makes it easy to find the exact tide the next year.

pretty much record time, tide and area.weather that day and if lucky to catch a few.if i did'nt go but sons or friends went will record how they did that day.also record water temps especially early spring.also record bait in area i'm fishing.

Logs can certainly help you find fish patterns and become more effective over time. I keep it in the style of a journal and include a couple photos and jot down some of the funny things that happen (like when a buddy caught a load in the face from a gull). I try document it all.
