1978 was a Snow Storm, ne c'est pas??? so how does 10" of rain become such a cause for "notice" other than the flooding factor? will it be cold enuff for snow when she arrives, and if so then 10" of rain = 60" of snow, right? THEREFORE; :err: :err: :wall: :smash: :buds: :fury: :buds: :smash: :wall: :err: :err: |
:lurk: Okay thanks:lurk:

after 3 or 4 feet --- what does it matter?
yeah one inch of rain equals about 1 foot of snow - supposedly so there fore 10 inches equals 10 feet of snow this is what i was told Crafty from a good guy who has a reputable source in the business of weather forecasting... anonymously it would be irresponsible for me not to inform you i don't joke around about this kind of stuff. highlight below this sentence and above this line Look for a super down pressure off the pacific coast --------------------------------------------------------------- back to bringing in the wood :scatter: :bo: |

used to think that it was the other way around. lemeee seeee,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, that translates to 100", orrr 8 FEET; 4inches of the white stuff. we're gonna need a bigger ARK and snow removal of EPIC proportions!!! better get out there and beat the Home Depot RUUUN on generators,,,,,,,,,,,,power cords, igloo access's. :biglaugh: :jump1: :jump1: :biglaugh: |
How much Bread and Bottled Water to I need to by for 100" of snow
|
Okay - looks like I'll be monitoring the weather channel...
There is a cold front right behind the low system due here Monday... Gonna stay at DefCon 3 until it hits the news... Until then I'll just go inventory milk and bread reserves for now - |

This may force people to resort to cannabilism. Thank god I don't live in Brockton.

Well, if you remember back in '93 we had those two blizzards which dropped 20+ inches and 30+ inches around New England. The intensity of those storms was blamed on an abundance of tiny particles of volcanic ash hanging in the atmosphere after the recent erruption of Mt. Pinatubo, and that was in the Pillipines! With the particularly volatile Pacific storm season and the impening erruption of Mt. Redoubt in Alaska... maybe this super storm is possible. I am not a meteorologist, nor am I going to insist that anyone attend a meeting to save the volcanos. :hihi:

From the weather channel
The next big weather maker will be a winter storm, forecast to develop Sunday night over the Northern Gulf, and track northeast, impacting the Eastern States Monday into Tuesday. This has the potential to be a strong winter storm, impacting areas from the Gulf Coast, through the New England States. However, the exact track and intensity still remain very uncertain. For now, the general thinking is that heavy snow and wind could impact parts of the Interior Northeast, Upper Ohio Valley, eastern Tennessee Valley and southern Appalachians. Wind, rain, and possible flooding could impact eastern areas of the New England States, including the bigger cities. Rain will initially impact the Southeastern States, but also has the potential to end as snow and wind as the storm moves northeast. |
Damn it
I been so busy with so many fisheries management issues that I completely missed the news about "The Big Storm". Raven, I can't thank you enough. I would have woke up in a couple days and who knows if I would have made it through at all. At least know I know and have a decent chance at survival. Ok...I still go time to get a few things ready. 1. Fill 55 gallon barell with beach sand in case it is only a few feet of snow...check 2. Fill 55 gallon barell with gasoline and put in basement...on second thought the basement might flood so i'll put it in the living room. 3. Fill 55 gallon barell with potable water and put in kitchen because i don't want fumes from gas barell ruining the taste of my drinking water. 4. Put empty 55 gallon barell in bathroom...'nuf said Ok, running out of time...no more typing...I gotta get movin. |

"Hmmm...:smokin:....big drifts when you get out there to the Flemish Cap...".. All kidding aside, it probably merits keeping an eye on it anyway - I hope Raven doesn't up having the last laugh - |
thankyou Dave
Canal man is right on target--> a voice of reason at last
haven't you noticed how many volcano's are happening over seas lately??? i have......... the volcano erupting in Alaska will be a contributing factor i'm sure... with global warming you have essentially global melting...... more fresh water sitting on top of salt water equals more evaporation which equals more precipitation or rainfall We have been lulled into a false sense of security concerning our weather patterns for the last 25 years i'd say... that may be about to change.... <--- i can remember a storm in the late 50's where the snow was up to the second story window sill of our house out in the back.... these youngins have no concept other than the storm of "78 " ~ but of course the same thing can be said about hurricanes and the big one in 38 didn't teach us a dammed thing we did not learn.... we are sitting ducks with so many homes on our coastline now,,,, i know you find it hard to believe that the "Boy crying WOLF" the biggest art prankster here ....could actually be right- i dunno ?? and hey...i can't blame you... but, i couldn't have a clear conscience if i had never said anything especially if i learned someone not prepared had died..... i was told this by a very serious native American Indian so - what's it gonna hurt? to have some extra cans of beans bottled water, steaks, and necessities in the house or flash lights with working batteries HUH? i live this survival business every single damn day ... and when i sit in front of my wood stove in a burnt rocking chair i can still see my breath in these frigid temperatures. i always say ...what if... and look at the worst case scenario half the wood is in - a 1/2 cord or so... ok back to work  |

Rav, when it comes to weather events, believe me, I take the world serious -
Outside of old fish pictures, the other thing I collect is stuff regarding the '38 Hurricane - I've got the actual ProJo printed on September 22, 1938, it's amazing to read it - and I grew up hearing that stuff from my parents and the rest of my family and their friends here in Newport. And no, wisenheimer, I wasn't there at the time...:fishslap: But I do remember Carol in '54 and it scared the crap out of me as a little kid - some pretty vivid memories for a 5 year old going around with my dad after it passed - Missed the '78 Blizzard, though - I had just driven to FL with a buddy that week and the day it hit I was sitting in Palm Beach nursing a sunburn and drinking a cold beer...:gu: |
heh heh
Karl - it's gonna be a three bottle storm i think :uhuh:
--------------------------------------------------------------- Crafty i was living in the mountains out west in "78" so - i really have no concept either.... but from the stories i've heard and movies i have seen on it... i will endeavor to practice the boy scouts motto --------------------------------------------------------------------- geesh...... i'm already half pooped out and will have a nice cold beer now... :) last one too.... i have about 4 wheel barrows to go... then i'm done because if the power went out again (without wood) ....we couldn't survive here very long ! ----------------------------------------------------------------- i even have a battery operated shower... too  TDF the red cross has all that info |
