What are you using for glasses on the water?
 

Maybe a random question, but I thought this group may know best. I'm looking for some polarized fishing glasses after breaking my old pair. I wear glasses for distance, but not usually on the water. My RayBans are polarized, but I can't see into the water like my old fishing glasses.

What do you guys use to protect your eyes and help cut glare?

I have to wear the fit over, kind not the most stylish but at my age I am beyond worrying about how I look on the water.

I have used both the Fit-Over brand and the Cocoons. If I had to pick one over the other I would go with the Fit-Overs over the Cocoons. The Cocoons just seem to dark in many places especially when on a trout stream. On salt water not as much as an issue.. I also like the fact they block the sun from coming in from the side and from behind you. It makes a huge difference.

On the flats the Amber is the best and they say for blue water the Gray is better but I don't go to that extreme.

I'd rate them in that order too...the Costa Del Mars are the best polarized glasses I've had, they look a little funny with the bright blue reflecting lenses, but they work. My Native's have amber colored lenses and seem to work better in shallow water and they are middle of the road in price. The Maui Jims are my driving sunnies and are the most stylish. All glasses will break eventually, buy from a company that will stand behind their product %100. I've sent glasses back to Costa Del Mar for repair and had them back for the price of shipping, and I've done the same with Native's 2x...

ray-bans with amber lenses

Hmm, that is what I have now. I just remember my no-name old freshwater glasses working much better, even in the ocean. The RBs are getting pretty old now, maybe I'll risk them getting destroyed and pick up a newer pair for land use.

I like mine better than a couple of costas I've had but that's just me

Prescription Action Optics with copper tint lens for my saltwater fishing, shore, boat or flats. Pleased with them.

I like the amber/copper color I think it works well in a lot of light conditions

i can literally see nearly everything that is going on under the water.from cruising stripers and blues,schools of baits,crabs in very deep waters.

OTW had a full 2-3 page article a couple months ago on how much the lens color can benefit/restrict your ability to see into the water.

I believe copper/amber was the color most recommended for bright days fishing in salt.

I spend most of my time chasing stripers with a fly rod on the flats. I have found amber lenses to be best on bright days and gray or charcoal better on overcast days.

I Flyfish in rivers for trout and on the flats for stripers. Best all round for sunny weather are Copper or Brown tint 99.99% polarized. My choice are the Action Optics/Smith. They also the ones I use when I drive. For low-light I go with the usual yellow/amber lenses. Action also hase them with built in readers 2.5 and models for Rx.
The manufacturers websites will provide recommendations for types of use and colors.

The Costas are great glasses also but I think the price is a little high when you compare them to the Smith/Action Optics. I've been using them for years now and I've been very happy with them. I do use the glass lenses almost exclusively but I have also tried their poly ones. I'm tough on them and I scratch the polys.

I've got a pair of Native's that are great. The lenses are interchangeable, but I mostly use the charcoal ones.

I wanna try out a pair of Azores this season. Ill let you guys know how i make out.

A few years ago I got a pair of Panoptx sunglasses with polarized lenses and a foam seal around the frame that fits to your face. They are now called 7eye http://www.7eye.com/products/

I love them as it cuts out all the glare that reflects off of things and goes around the glasses. It also cuts out the wind as you are zooming off to the next fishing spot. They do fog up every once in a while but not much and they clear quick. You have to get ones that fit your face. Since I bought them I have started using reading glasses so I will look into ones with bifocals. I think there are couple of other brands that have a similar foam seal.

I'm a huge fan of Costa Del Mar........I have a couple of pairs. A big goofy pair I wear on the water and a "sleaker" pair I wear on shore. Super important to protect those peepers, never mind being able to see thing in the H20 better!

Protecting the eyes is EXTREMELY important people, I'm an example of not. Most of my life I've been fishing without sunglasses. In fact, rarely used them at all. I'm in my mid-fifties. December/January I had to have Cataract Surgery. Vision was going down REAL fast the past two years. So bad that I wasn't supposed to be driving (what was that bang?) Not counting what insurance paid it cost me $5,000 out of pocket for the implants.
However, I now see great! SO, $200 Sunglasses is a bargain in the long run.

I'm curious if anyone has used a good pair of polarized lenses that work out on the water that cost less than $100?

JohnnyD these work great are real glass and very affordable. I have two pair and they are very nice.
