Check this out...MV ferry for sale on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/STEEL...1%7C240%3A1318
the SSA sold the Islander about a year ago for 500K to NY and it was being used as a ferry to Staten Island for a while I think. It was in bad shape...I was hoping they would turn in into an artificial reef to help save the south shore but I guess 500K looked pretty good to them. Anyway you can pick up a 200' ferry in bad shape with good engines on the cheap! My dream has always been to buy a vehicle like this (actually an old cruise ship would be better) turn it more into a fisherman's hotel, get a really strong anchor, drive it out to the canyon, and park it there it forever. You could go out there and live/fish/eat/entertain yourself for weeks at a time in a fisherman's paradise. |
Some rich summer resident is going to buy it and try to turn it into a floating museum. I can see them trying to anchor it in VH harbor, right next to the Shenendoah :grins:
Was there a reserve on the auction? Right now the top bid is a little under $15,000. They never ran it to Staten Island, by the way. They have 3 brand new fuel efficient ferries for the SI run, plus two passenger-only ones from the early 1980s. They would never run a single screw dinosaur like the Islander there. It's been anchored at Governor's Island since NYS bought it. |
If you really want to see how bad a shape it's in, check the survey done last May:
http://www.ogs.state.ny.us/surplus/e...ges/161913.pdf The fact that NY State bought this thing sight-unseen for half a million dollars tells you why the state is nearly bankrupt :rollem:  |
The way I see it It's worth about 150K In P&S Steel and About 75K worth of gear and equipment. So if ya got a big yard, and alot of spare time, a couple of trailer dumps........ If your into that sort of thing.:alien:
