Bunker Spoons....
 

Never like doing the T&W thing, though I know it does work. But I have been thinking of looking into some bunker spoons. Don't know of many that use them, but they've been around for many years.
From what I've found, it requires a rod that will pump with the spoon's motion once you have dialed in the right speed. Any thoughts on what rods would work? Maybe I already have one....stiff with a soft tip. What sizes/weights have you seen used? Also, historically it has been done with wire. Can you do it effectively with leadcore or braid? Just trying to add another arrow to the quiver...

Ross OTW has an article this month on just that. Or did you read it and are just trying to gain more insight?

I must have skimmed that article and forgot it, Frank. Thanks for the heads up. It was within arms length from me, too. I was talking with a friend who charters out of Gloucester, and he couldn't believe I didn't have a couple spoons, nevermind that I had never used one.... got me thinking. And after 15 seconds of that, I opened the thread.:hihi:

Hey Ross, If I remember tomorrow I'll give you a couple of Niantic Spinners...one of the guys at the club makes them and he crushes on them all season long

I use a long 8'6" slow action rod with a penn 349 mariner loaded W/ 50# mono, once the speed is correct it pumps and fluters well. I still like the real thing better.

i never leave home w/o it... mostly on wire but new braid and drail weights work will too in 30ft or less water.talk to paul prof m. he's very good w/spoons .pumpin movement of rod tip is a must .

Here in Montauk for the Fall run I had used the B Spoons with wire and 80 lb. mono. I've had stripers that wore threw the 80 lb with their backs and tail as they ran (just like a Long Island RxR Locomotive.) Thump, thump thump thump the rod went and then bing! I couldn't tell ya what type rods since it was a buds boat but the reels would have pulled Blue Fins.
