more birdies. Buds on early flowering plants are starting to swell and show some color and sure sign as I was able to prime some plugs outdoors today as I have a little micro climate up against the house.

bluebirds eat suet

but only in the form of droppings
from the woodpecker hanging baskets

they rarely get on feeders

they are thought of ....as only bug eaters
not true

here's an older pic of one
at the base of the metal feeder stand

9 MORE DAYS

I think its spring. we'll still get sme cold and possibly snowey days but we are on the downside now. Once all the snow melts , the sunlite is absorbed as heat instead of reflected. To me , that';s when spring happens.

Raven 03-11-2009 09:04 AM

chipmunks?

screw Ground HOGS

when chipmunks appear

spring is here :walk:

ya'll seen any?

i'm a hankerin for SOME chipmunk stew :jump1:

Saltheart 03-11-2009 09:15 AM

You don't eat chipmunks!! They talk and sing!! I've seen it on TV and at the movies. :)

ProfessorM 03-11-2009 11:44 AM

Been one active in my stone wall near house all winter. On warm days he has come out and sits there eating stored acorns and pissing off my cat.

Raven 03-11-2009 11:54 AM

one thing about chipmunks

they love to piss off cats

they enjoy the thrill of the chase

like nothing else

go to the herb store and buy bulk cayenne pepper

because you have to add more sprinkles of it

after each rain storm....

once they get HOT mouth

they will leave it alone....

Adam_777 03-11-2009 06:29 PM

The critters are starting to come out.My tiny front yard looked like it was hit with an aerator.Birds maybe digging for worms ?Grubs ? This was Sunday the last time I was able to stop and look @ it.

Raven 03-11-2009 06:38 PM

grubs

flocks of starlings will dig up all the lawn grubs
as soon as the soil is thawed out
and it's better than using pesticides

Saltheart 03-11-2009 06:46 PM

Yeah and the skunks doing the same will make it look like its been rototilled. :(

Raven 03-11-2009 07:01 PM

definitely skunk season

use moth balls to

chase them away

Adam_777 03-11-2009 07:03 PM

I hope they feast on it.The less lawn to cut the better for me.I pay for water so obviously I'm not watering the damn lawn.

On a side note.Yesterday while road testing a tractor down the highway I got to a ramp and I slowed way down. There was this big hawk gliding in the ditch to my right .He landed in a tree in close view to me and gave me the nod.So I think spring is here.Saltheart has it right with the heat absorption theory meaning it's on it's way.I couldn't have explained it better myself.I am sick of the white stuff.

Raven 03-17-2009 05:34 AM

today is Spring for me

when i heard the Robin Sing.....

something about there song has
always defined spring
for me anyways...

when i was just a little kid
it told me to go fishing
down to the Charles river
more than anything else

so happy now to hear it.

ProfessorM 03-17-2009 09:09 AM

as the day comes to an end and you can hear the robins up high in the trees is a welcome sound to me too

cheferson 03-17-2009 09:31 AM

There is a half dozen dandilions blooming in my front yard
