What Are You Doing To Get Ready for This Season?

I was looking at a calendar yesterday and realized that Daylight Savings Time starts this Saturday...

Cripes, I gotta get going - thank God I reamed and sorted through my tackle room over the winter - wellll...I don't think I actually need much after digging stuff out - but there is stuff I want...:)

Think I'll start with my trout stuff tonight - new line, check spinners and spoons etc...put hooks on some of the Pt Jude freshwater stuff Uncle Joe gave me...

Tie up some new bucktail jigs...dig out my slip bobbers for the Spring blackfish run....start tying my leaders and eel hooks....

Oh man...it's almost HERE!!!! :jump:

WESTPORTMAFIA 03-04-2009 03:48 PM

Putting together, Cribs, Strollers, car seats, jumpers and that kind of stuff. I got this COOL baby sling that will attach your kid to you when tossing plugs off the beach. I'm sure people are going to love that.

JohnnyD 03-04-2009 03:55 PM

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. Gonna start getting my trout gear in order, get leaders tied for the sweetwater. Then, finally purchase some jig molds and a small toaster oven and make a ton of jigs for the spring canal run.

Tie as many leaders as possible, spool up my new-used emblem 5500 and sharpen hooks. Tie up some teasers, make some teaser rigs and tie up a bunch of eel hooks.

I have about 20 sluggos that need rigging and a few dead eels that still need to be rigged as well.

Oh and I have a couple plugs that still need painting. Not to mention finding a place for the gear I'm sure to buy at the upcoming fishing shows.

Now that I've typed it all out.... I should have started months ago.

Circlehook 03-04-2009 03:56 PM

I need to go get some eel hooks and barrel swivels this weekend, then to start leader tying. Need to replace a bunch of trebles on some pencils.

Waders are on order from LL BEan, will order a Saltiga next weekend.

After my above post, I'm right there with you.

I just need to do the regular maintenance on my reels to make sure they're working properly. Two years ago, I forgot to check the button on my red Zebco on the Spiderman rod and when the sunfish blitz broke out, I was left standing on shore with my rod in my hand.

I also have to tie some leaders and finish up some plugs I started back in November. Other than that, I should be in good shape for the season. I'll be at MSBA this weekend and will probably buy a bunch more stuff that I don't really need, too.

I need to replace ALL my Korker spikes... anyone know of any good prices? I usually tie leaders and change hooks on a need-basis... I have this weird thing that if I tie a bunch of leaders months in advance, and cant remember when they were tied, or if they sit for a few months, I start to doubt them... If I'm using a leader, I like tying the knots a DAY before... I have more confidence in them that way...

FishermanTim 03-04-2009 04:39 PM

I'm going ice fishing this weekend.
I'll start prepping for the spring during the next month, and for the summer during April and May.

Raven 03-04-2009 05:23 PM

well

i'd better get some new mono....

too much memory and heat damage to
whats on my spools .....

Glad you brought it up Crafty...
because i've been looking at a collection
of rods calling to me..... for some TLC.... :agree:

Nothing

I slowly buy terminal tackle and other odds and ends over the winter so I'm pretty much good to go.

I do have to buy one of those huge spools of PP. I always say I'm going too and end up just buying 300yrds.

ThrowingTimber 03-04-2009 07:26 PM

Dishes. :hihi:

Spending money on terminal tackle. respooling the reels. Waiting for my reel from shimano. Picked up a extra pair of korkers. I'm sure theres more.

Rocco34520 03-04-2009 08:39 PM

Need to get a few rods wrapped. Spool my reels. Maybe a VS if i can somehow scare up the money before the season. Pick up bucktails for the canal. And theres always the plugs.

With my permanent record I'll never fill the cookie jar.

bart 03-05-2009 09:00 AM

doin' the same, need to the hit the gym harder. been putting weight on fast since i quit smoking and it's only been 5 days. last year i was in tip top shape to fish and for the couple months that i did actually fish, I could really feel difference.

Bronko 03-05-2009 09:34 AM

Chasing around a 2 year old and changing diapers on the 2 1/2 month old. Super busy at work. Figure I'll pick up some terminal tackle this weekend.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to change a few hooks on my spring plugs and tie a bunch of leaders for tossing eels.

Mr. Sandman 03-05-2009 09:49 AM

The daylight savings benchmark you use is a trick! It is early this year...I think it normally happens about a month later. Fishing will not get rocking here for 3 more months.

That said I always need more stuff. Who here DOESN'T?
