getting ready to troll
subcontracting
subcontracting the sealing out to the chinese because of asthma:laugha:...the woodworking don't help my breathing but the mineral spirts/val and the spray cans knock me on my butt:doh:going to have to change things up...maybe epoxy seal and dip the primer on...bins/alcohol.....nice out today getting excited....got to get the boat ready...it was live bunker and spooks last spring..some medal lips jiggy pikies and ryan's peanuts...I want to troll more...thimber I need some smackeral paint:claps:
Let me know how you make out with that cowboy.....I've been messing with one this year and get it to stop rolling......
weight
the 3rd and 4th line are weight marks..I got 6 grams each =12g...the real ones may have 20grams it body may be 1/8 inch thinner and have a pikie 3 lip...I've played with the weights depending on the current(mostly rhody breachways):bl:

not sure if the weighting is the same
I got two tester one weighted like I weight a cowboy and I'm trying a 1/2inch 9 gram in the frount weight mark and a small tailweight... .20 or .24 nd I'm trying a bluntboy no slope:wavey: http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o...razy/tbbb4.jpg

wood
its cypress....rings:spin:
Curious Ed. Do you like the cypress? I find it to be so grainy that it is hard to get a smooth plug. I use it as I have a bunch and for my own stuff I really don't care so much about the finish look but I will probably not buy any more. I will use AWC or WRC instead if I want something light. Just curious in your opinion.
I noticed the same thing about the cypress...you definitely get ridges on the finished product.....thats what I used on my Cowboys.....might try and use a heavier wood and see if I can reduce the roll that way
cypress
I agree its a pain...I like the weight its heaver than the white and red...ayc's better but to get the 2x2inch wood I got to buy 2x4's and rip them down...I got the cypress from doc at a great price...I just ripped down some for next year from planks....if it was all the same price I'd go with ayc...white or red for topwater and ayc before cypress for swimmers...the outside ring will never sand off:hihi: I got some planks from doc at plugfest for 4 or 5 bucks each probly got 15 feet of 2x2 each plank
heaver wood
dad, I tried swimmers with heaver wood and didn't care for the action the weight killed it...I like cypress and the ayc because there heaver, a 9 inch pikie in white of red ceder is hard to get it under the surface..the cypress and ayc float good but not as well as the white or red giveing more control and swimming better subsurface...I may try spanish ceder...
Ed have you tried southern yellow poplar, seal it with oil base polyurethane sanding sealer. Cheap available and the same density as AYC.
southern yellow populer
pete I'll have to try it...I just cut up a bunch of basswood...I bought a 2x6x8 feet plank.....seems heaver than awc and red ceder
Looking good still waiting for mine
