Custom Ditch Rod Reco
Hi All,
Looking to for a new ditch stick and figured I'd bite the bullet and go custom. Here are the things I'm looking for: 10' 5 oz sweet spot 2 piece The 2 piece requirement eliminates a lot of the popular blanks. I'd also like to try and keep the final cost of built rod to around 300 clams, so probably no super duper high end blanks. What say you all? Oh yea, I'd need to find a local builder around the ditch as well. Thanks in advance. |
Check out M&D's in Wareham. Mike is a great guy and he builds a great rod. Another option is CMS in Wareham. Its a win win situation.

I'm not taking any additional rods at this time. I having problems with my eye and it is taking 3X longer to do the design work than usual. So after I get caught up and take orders again there will be nothing fancy for designs.

If MikeCC isn't taking orders, try Saltheart.

CMS is also an option....got a couple of their rods and they do a great job

Might be able to get it done plain jane with a Rainshadow SU1267, I would call/PM around to builders. I don't know what they are going for price wise, but a buddy wanted a 1209 as he fished my 1209 but 1pc is not an option for him and went with a RS SU1267 and he is happy.

You can contact Fontaine as well, but I hear the wait is pretty long right now.

Hope you get better mike
Mike,
I hope you get better. You don't really know me yet. I'm a fixture at the east end of the canal. I visited you once repping the spinjigs and you were a nice guy. Sorry to hear about your father. I'll be in this spring to load up on some plugs. Take care, Night troll Quote:

I've contacted Batson about the new SUR blanks. So far it looks like the number ratings are a bit different compared to the older SU blanks. I'm on the west coast right now and won't be needing this rod until Sept/Oct.

I am pretty sure he bought the Rainshadow SU 1267 and that is the rod he used... I will get a hold of him this weekend and ask for sure..
Just so you know we were tossing the Tsunami swim shads 9" @ 6oz. |

5 OZ plus a shad body and you need a lot of rod. I'm with Mike P , no way a 1267 will handle that. It will go to 4 with a curltail but pretty weak even at 5 with no tail.
For 5 plus a shad body almost everyone would use a one piece 1209. A century tip tornado light will hammer 5 plus the shad body and its two piece but you'll spend the long dollar. I think a Lami 1266 comes in two piece? That might handle it but again its expensive. I think you need to think about taking the chance to cutting down a big meat stick typically used for tossing 8 and bait. Smokey has used an allstar 1266 and it will handle 5 but again , not with the big shad body. That rod will handle 1 OZ more than the 1267. These are for allstarts , I don't know about the rainshadow line. Some say the SU line is the same as the allstars , some say its different. |
